I hope all is going well. We had a wonderful community service event during lunch today. Students had the opportunity to check in with local programs during lunch and learn about how they could volunteer to earn community service hours. Now is a great time to encourage your student to work on their community service hours!

As mentioned in the previous Shark Bytes, please calendar these two september dates:

• Wednesday September 11th, Staff Development - No Students
• Thursday September 19th, Back to School Night and OSPTO starts at 6:00 pm

Due to our blackout on Thursday, Lifetouch is coming back on Thursday September 19th for the final day of make up pictures. If you are interested in ordering pictures, log onto mylifetouch.com and use your student ID to order pictures.

In Mock Trial, you’ll step into the roles of attorneys, witnesses, and jurors in simulated court cases. It’s a fantastic way to enhance your public speaking skills, learn about the legal system, and work as part of a dynamic team.

VSS International, contracted by the City of Pacifica, will commence the Slurry Type III Resurfacing for the 2024-25 Pavement Resurfacing Project. Paloma Ave and Oceana Blvd will be part of this project. The project consists of several phases that will take place over the next 3 months. The following construction methods will be performed in the next 2 weeks are as follows:

• Type III Slurry Seal - Weeks of August 27 through August 30th
• Sweeping – Throughout the duration of the project

During construction, traffic will be temporarily redirected by flaggers to ensure the safety of both residents and workers. Please follow the redirections and allow additional time for your student to be on time for class. The school entrance will not be blocked and traffic control will direct the flow of traffic. For additional information about this project, you can go to the city of Pacific's page on city streets maintenance program.

OSPTO, Oceana's parent organization, is looking for a treasurer. This is an excellent position for someone interested in the financial aspects of small non-profit management. The Treasurer gets to participate in almost all aspects of OSPTO activities, and many times is the first person to realize and share how much good OSPTO is doing. OSPTO's books are in order and well-kept. The outgoing treasurer will be around to answer any and all questions.

The Pacifica Youth Advisory Board meets twice a month to discuss issues holds community events. You will work with other passionate young leaders and make connections that last a lifetime, get creative and organize events that cater to the interests and needs of our youth, and tackle issues affecting the youth in our community.

Sanchez Adobe Rancho Day Fiesta is on September 21, 2024. All the necessary information about this event can be found in the SignUp Genius. No experience is necessary. In addition, volunteers working the entire day will receive a certificate for confirming 4.5 hours of community service for their participation.

Students who are interested in volunteering as a cabin leader for outdoor education should fill out the registration form. Students are needed during week 1 (9/9 to 9/13) and week 13 (12/9-12/13).

We encourage all students to review the attached flyer and take advantage of these resources. Mental health is an important aspect of your overall well-being, and we are here to support you every step of the way.

Wellness Counselor and School Social Worker can provide support with short-term mental health, stress management/mindfulness, grief/loss, anxiety/depression, health appointments, crisis, referrals to community resources/outside counseling, and more! No question or concern is too small!
