March News: Spring into Learning at Washington Elementary!
As the days grow longer and the temperatures begin to rise, March brings an exciting season of learning and fun at Washington Elementary!
Read Across America Week
We will kick off the month with Read Across America Week, celebrating our love of books and literacy. Mrs. Bruck has planned a variety of exciting activities for students and staff, including:
Drop Everything And Read (DEAR): Students will take time throughout the day to enjoy a good book.
Read-A-Thon: Individual and class rewards will encourage students to read even more!
Door Decorating Contest: Get ready to see our hallways transformed with book-themed doors!
Special Lunches: Enjoy themed lunches that align with our school’s reading theme.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Mark your calendars! Spring conferences will be held on March 13 & 14. This is a great opportunity to check in on student progress and celebrate growth. Look out for your scheduled time from your child’s teacher.
Walking Club Update
As the weather improves, our morning Walking Club will continue to meet before school. Please remember to dress in layers, as mornings can still be chilly. We will head outside as long as the temperature is above 15 degrees! Adult supervision begins at 7:45 AM.

Spring Friendship Skills.
Hello, Wildcat Families! Winter may be hanging on but it will not last; Spring, flowers, and warm weather are on the horizon!
And speaking of that, let’s chat about friendship skills. Stick with me; I realize that seems like an odd jump. But just like planting seeds and nurturing them into thriving plants takes time and skill, so does making and building friendships that last. Our kids learn how to build friendships by watching the people around them. However, many of us have friendships that are years, if not decades old. With that, our kiddos aren’t necessarily able to watch how we started and nurtured those friendships into the great relationships they are now. Don’t worry, you don’t have to go out and make new friends for your kids to learn those early skills, you can help them by putting words to the process.
Tell them your friendship stories. What did you do well? What mistakes did you make? How did you fix them? Talk about how they can use those skills with their own friendships.
Take note of their skills, or lack thereof, as you see them playing with others. If you notice something they can work on, let them know in a kind way and share how you went through the same thing (if you did). If you notice them using a good friendship skill, point that out, too! All this can be done after those other little friends have gone home. Let the conversations be in a safe, private place.
My friendship mantra has always been to be the kind of friend I want to have. I want a trustworthy, fun, loving, “up for anything,” forgiving friend who likes road trips? I need to be that trustworthy, loving, “up for anything,” forgiving friend who likes road trips!
Cheers to the budding flowers and friendships ahead!
