MORNING DROP OFF PROCEDURES REMINDER
Building doors and door #2 open at 8:20 AM. Please be mindful of dropping students off prior to this time as some mornings can get very cold!!
When waiting to enter the parking lot, please be aware of your vehicle's location. Please do the best job you can not to block crosswalks and sidewalks in which our students are using to cross streets.
Once you enter the parking lot and are alongside the curb, your students can exit the vehicle if they are old enough to do so on their own. Students that need assistance can wait for an associate to help. We are hoping that this can speed up the drop off process and reduce congestion right away in the morning.
Thank you so much for your help in providing a safe and efficient drop off for students!
SNOW DAY PROCEDURES
Dear D.C. Everest Families,
As we prepare for the upcoming winter season, we would like to make you aware of the snow day procedures we have in place in the event of inclement weather.
The D.C. Everest School District allotted two "built in" snow days for the 2024-25 school year. In the event we use both of those days, the third snow day will be made up by having students attend class on June 6, 2025.
If we exceed three snow days, and students cannot attend school in person due to inclement weather, students will learn from home. A summary of these plans is included below. Additional details would be shared by your student(s)' teacher(s) in the event we exceed three snow days.
DCE Middle School, Junior High and Senior High
Teachers will post the day's lesson plan to their Canvas page by 9:00 a.m.
Teachers will be available via WebEx during listed open office hours that will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Students are encouraged to meet with their teacher virtually to ask questions and get support.
If a teacher's identified office hours do not work for a student, students should send a request to their teacher to meet virtually at another time.
Attendance will be taken based on completion of assigned tasks. If a student is unable to complete assigned work due to extenuating circumstances, the student should inform their teacher upon returning to school.
DCE Idea School
Advisors will email a plan to students and parents by 9:00 a.m.
Advisors will respond promptly to emails and be available via WebEx between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Students are encouraged to email or meet with their advisor virtually to ask questions and get support.
If an advisor's identified office hours do not work for a student, students should send a request to their advisor to meet virtually at another time.
Students will complete a Home Study Day sheet with their work plan for the day and have it signed by a parent/guardian.
DCE Elementary Schools
Teachers will host a 9:00 a.m. virtual morning meeting that students should attend if they are able.
Teachers will post the day's lessons to their Canvas page by 9:00 a.m.
Teachers will be available throughout the day to answer questions via email.
For more information, please visit the District's weather-related closure webpage.
If you have any questions, please contact your building principal.
Sincerely,
Jeff Lindell, D.C. Everest Assistant Superintendent of Learning
COLD WEATHER
Winter is upon us with snow falling and children excited to play outside. Below is the temperature guide that is used to ensure that students are dressed appropriately for recess. Snowpants, boots, hats, gloves/mittens and jackets are required for all 3K-5 students from the first snowfall until all snow is gone from the playground area. If your child(ren) is in need of any items and needs assistance obtaining these items, please reach out to your child's teacher, Ms. Gilmore, Ms. Gillick, or Ms. Schlagenhaft to connect you with community resources.
Please note, if the temperature/windchill is above ZERO, your child(ren) will be going outside for recess.
Our playground is always colder than what our weather apps on our phones tell us. Being on top of a hill across from Lake Wausau, we always experience colder temperatures and more wind.
ADVANCED LEARNER PROGRAM CHALLANGE
Advanced Learner Parent Information Meeting
This year the parent meeting will be on Monday January 27th, 2025 at 5:30 pm in the Riverside IMC or via WEBEX
ADVANCED LEARNER/CHALLENGE PROGRAM NOMINATION PERIOD
The nomination period for the 2025-2026 Advanced Learner/Challenge Program Magnet Program will begin on Thursday January 2, 2025 and runs through Friday January 31, 2025. The D.C. Everest Advanced Learner/Challenge Program is open to students in 2nd through 5th grade and is housed at Riverside Elementary. In addition to an accelerated curriculum, emphasis is placed on the higher level cognitive skills, problem solving, logic, and creativity. Students selected for placement in the program need to acquire academic knowledge quickly, apply this knowledge in creative and productive ways, and demonstrate a strong desire to learn. Parents and teachers are encouraged to nominate students in 1st through 4th grades who have demonstrated advanced academic capabilities. Nomination forms will be available in elementary school offices on Thursday January 2, 2025.
WINTER SCREENING
In January, students will take part in our winter math and reading screener window to demonstrate the incredible progress they’ve made so far this year. Students will complete some parts of the screeners on their iPads and other parts with teachers in our building. These screeners help us see how much students have grown and highlight areas where we can continue to support and cheer them on in their learning journey. As usual, daily attendance is important so we can get the most accurate picture of each child’s growth and success.
ROTHSCHILD PTO MEETINGS
Our school offers many opportunities for parent/guardian involvement. The Rothschild PTO invites parents/guardians to participate in programs, raises funds, and provides an avenue for parents/guardians and teachers to work and socialize with each other. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to attend Rothschild PTO meetings and help with special projects whenever possible. Rothschild PTO meetings are generally held on the second Monday of the month in the Rothschild Elementary School Conference Room #211. Meetings are held from 6:00 – 7:00 pm. There is an opening for a Volunteer Coordinator for our PTO. Please contact our Rothschild PTO President, Erin Rajek, for more information at erinrajek@gmail.com

ROTHSCHILD ELEMENTARY ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES
ATTENDANCE
When a child is absent, a parent/guardian should call school 715-359-3186, press 1 for attendance voicemail, by 9:00 a.m. to inform the office that the child will not be in attendance. If a family does not call to inform school about a student’s absence, the school will make a reasonable attempt to reach a parent/guardian at home or work. If the office is not able to contact a parent to get an explanation for an unreported absence, the absent child will be recorded as “unexcused”. Police/SRO Zwicky may be called if we are concerned with the safety of the child. After a student has been absent, he or she should bring to school a written excuse signed by a parent/guardian. For doctor or dentist appointments, please bring a slip from their office to have the appointment considered as a medical excuse. Absences beyond five per semester may need a doctor’s excuse. The only excused absences are those due to illness of the student, death in the family, a doctor or dentist appointment that cannot be scheduled after school hours, or whenever the principal considers that exemption from attendance is in the best interest of the student.
STUDENTS WHO ARE TARDY
Children who arrive at school after the attendance bell (8:45AM) will be considered tardy. When such cases occur, parents/guardians should check their child into the office and state the reason for the tardiness. The attendance secretary will make the necessary changes in the school attendance report.
STUDENTS LEAVING SCHOOL EARLY
At times, it may be necessary for you to schedule an appointment or an emergency occurs which requires an early release of your child(ren). Please send a note to school informing the teacher of the early release. Parents/Guardians picking up students during the school day must always check in at the school office and sign him/her out. The teacher will then be contacted to dismiss the student. Parents/Guardians may not remove students from a classroom, lunchroom, playground or location other than the office. Students will not be permitted to wait for parents/guardians in the parking lot or at a curbside location. This procedure will be followed for your child's protection.
CHANGES FOR STUDENT PICK-UP DURING THE DAY
If a parent/guardian needs to change the plan for pick-up/bus drop-off at the end of a day, the parent/guardian must call the office and notify the secretary by 3:00 PM. The secretary will relay the message to the teacher and the student. Do not email the child’s teacher or leave messages on their phone, as the teacher may not get the message before the end of the day.
WE INVITE YOU TO BE A VOLUNTEER AT OUR SCHOOL!
Every day, D.C. Everest volunteers make a huge impact on the educational experience of our students. Volunteers are welcome and greatly appreciated. Whether you are interested in a one-time, one-hour project or an ongoing opportunity, we will find something that fits your schedule, talents and desires.
We continually strive to build a culture of civic engagement across our K-12 curriculum and strengthen connections district wide through meaningful engagement. With safety as a top priority, D.C. Everest has updated how it approaches the use of volunteers who may work with our students. All school sites across the D.C. Everest Area School District (DCE) and Greenheck Fieldhouse Recreational Programming will utilize an automated volunteer management program called Volunteer Tracker to manage volunteer opportunities. Volunteer Tracker allows us to manage our volunteer program across the district, track and recognize the volunteer contributions of community members, send reminders to our volunteers/staff, and conduct criminal background screenings. A snapshot of the different levels of volunteer opportunities and an overview of the application and background check procedures associated with each is provided below. If you have questions about volunteer opportunities at a specific school, please contact the Rothschild Elementary School Office.
For in-depth information related to district volunteer opportunities and/or protocols, please visit the DCE Volunteer page https://www.dce.k12.wi.us/community/dce-evergreen-volunteers
