Kindergarten Round Up
Do you have a child that will be 5 on or before 9/1/24? If so, please fill out this form to let us know they are planning on attending Westminster Center School's kindergarten classroom. We are planning two family play nights in May, so it is important we have your contact information for future communication. More info to come!
Kindergarten
At Studio Y, Kindergartners discovered that kindness creates bridges that help bring people (or characters) together. Gizmo, a master engineer, and his friend Gadget invited our students to help them build a bridge for the Kadoodles. The young adventurers were excited to collaborate and create plans for the bridges. They even purchased colorful supplies at The Kindness Store by sharing acts of kindness they had experienced throughout the day. Kindergartners designed and engineered bridges that allowed their new friends to safely cross home. Everyone celebrated their success! Everything is better when you are helping your friends.
Stay tuned for more adventures at Studio Y.
First Grade
First Graders have a new favorite folk dance! We do different movements to show the form of the song, including skipping, hopping, and turning. During this activity, we are practicing performing and responding to music with safe, artful bodies. We love dancing!
Second Grade
The warm, dry weather has been perfect for second grade sit spots and tree identification. We start our FTS block each week with a welcome circle and sit spots. Students spend 7-8 minutes sitting quietly in and around the garden, using their senses to record their observations in science journals. The weekly practice has allowed for deep reflection and noticings in and around the garden.
After our grounding activity we continued with our quest to identify some of the species of trees on our campus. This week students used bark identifiers to identify and graff different trees on our property. We will continue our work as more tree clues emerge throughout spring.
Third Grade
Third graders build on math fact fluency by diving into strategic math games.
Fourth Grade
Fourth graders celebrated the first day of spring by finding inspiration for writing outside! They found an object in nature, and wrote a creative story based on the object they found.
Fifth Grade
5th graders spent a week working on a STEAM project building cars that ran on a chemical reaction. Students designed, tested and redesigned wheels, chassis, and weight to see if their car would go the farthest. There were some cars that didn't go as far and some that made us laugh but in the end Maci and Elise's car came out on top by a foot!
Sixth Grade
The 6th grade students have been studying the artist Robert Delauney, who was one of the founders of the Orphism art movement noted for its use of strong colors and geometric shapes. The 6th grade students used their knowledge of contrasting colors and geometric shapes to create these works of art.
