Message from the Principal
To say that the start of the school year and first full week of classes has been amazing is an understatement! Since day one, August 15th, I observed community building taking place in all corners of our campus. I heard stories being shared amongst students and staff. I witnessed students learning how to be safe Steindorf students on campus during class tours. I also joined classrooms and sat right alongside students as they rose to the challenge of a brand new school year. We have many new faces on campus, not just staff but also with students. While being new in a new community can be overwhelming, the sheer joy of being part of this amazing Steindorf community is powerful! All of our students have done an exceptional job transitioning to the 2024-25 school year and have shown how ready they are to learn, grow, and tackle challenges with curiosity and dedication.
On Thursday, our ASB students kicked off the first assembly of the school year. They focused on the themes of common sense, school spirit, and celebration. Our Steindorf cheerleaders not only greeted all of our students as they arrived at the amphitheater, but they also treated everyone with two fantastic performances.
We have a very busy week coming up with Back to School Night on Thursday August 29th. Please be sure to check the schedule for the various grade levels, below. This is a parent and guardian only event. This way, parents and guardians can really focus on our teacher's presentations. They will be sharing how they run their classrooms and programs as well as their hope in how we can partner between school and home to ensure all of our students thrive.
Remember, we are Steindorf Strong, today, and everyday!
In community,
Dr. Lee
Principal
Happy Birthday Dr. Lee!

Safe Travels To and From School - Do’s and Don'ts
NOTE: The city has installed a "Right Turn Only During School Hours" sign at the exit of our parking lot. This is now enforceable by police. TURNING LEFT OR TRYING TO GO STRAIGHT is a danger to our students. Especially those crossing in the crosswalk across the street. Please only turn right.
Do’s
Walk or ride your bike when possible. You can lock your bike at the small bike rack at the end of the middle school wings.
Pull forward in the drop-off zone.
Drive slowly through our parking lot and look for pedestrians crossing at any point.
If transporting your child via car, park in a designated parking spot or in the neighborhood.
Please ensure that your child is fully buckled when driving through our parking lot.
Wear a helmet, it’s the law! Children under the age of 18 in California are required to wear a helmet when riding or operating a non-motorized scooter, bicycle, roller skates or skateboard.
To reduce the risk of an accident, abide by the posted sign installed by the City of San Jose and only turn right out of our exit between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm.
Don'ts
Don’t drive through our parking lot with distractions that could cause a student injury - In the first six days of school, Principal Lee has noted children scooting without a helmet, drivers with a phone in their hand, and dogs in drivers’ laps (which is not illegal, but a potential distraction).
Don’t park in designated disabled spots without a disabled placard.
Don’t bring your pet with you to campus.

Attendance Matters
School attendance is a top priority. When children miss school days, they miss the opportunity to learn from their teachers. The more children miss, the harder it is for them to keep up with those who attend school regularly.
Research shows that missing 10 percent of school, or just 2 days a month, negatively affects a student’s academic performance in reading and math.
Students who are chronically absent in grades TK-2 are far less likely to read proficiently at the end of grade 3.
Help your child be a HERO (Here at school, Every day, Ready to learn, and On time). Attending school every day helps students build their super powers like reading, writing, and math skills, and provides opportunities to connect with friends.
Medication Authorization
This is a reminder that all medications have to be stored in the office with the appropriate medication authorization form. To ensure your student's safety, over the counter and prescription medications that are used on campus must be accompanied by forms signed by your doctor. You can find all forms on our district website.
*All medications must be new and unopened. Cough drops and over the counter medications also follow the same guidelines.
Short-Term Independent Studies
If you are planning on scheduling family vacations, please make every effort to schedule around our instructional calendar. You can also find early release days outside of our regularly scheduled early release Wednesdays for scheduling appointments for your scholar. If your plans include your scholar missing 3-14 days of school, please notify the front office to discuss a short-term independent studies contract to minimize the impact of missed school days. You can find more information about absences on our district website.

Online Student Safety
Now that we have returned to school, there has been a surge of Securly notifications that students are visiting blocked websites or using search words that raise a flag of concern. Securly is a system we utilize to monitor what students are accessing when logged into their Cambrian School District account. Some of these notifications are received in the middle of the night, when our scholars should be fast asleep. Please reiterate safe online computer practices and decision-making at home. The sole purpose of our student accounts and devices are for educational reasons, not gaming and not searching topics that are not related to their schoolwork. Please check out this article recently published by the Institute of Digital Media and Child Development of the impact of digital media on youth attention and focus and these Common Sense Media parental guides and resources.
