STUDENTS OF THE MONTH AT MARYSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL
Violet Gibbs
Everyday Violet comes to class with a smile and a positive attitude. She is attentive and works diligently to understand the content. She is always willing to participate in activities and is not afraid to ask questions and take risks with the language. Her behavior and attitude serve as examples for others to follow. It is a true pleasure to have her in class.
-Ms. Gwisdala
Donovan Steele
Donovan has shown so much growth from last year to this year. He is polite, takes pride in his work, is driven to do well, and I can rely on Donovan doing what he is supposed to be doing. He is a pleasure to have in class and I’m so proud of all his hard work this year. You’re capable of great things, Donovan.
Ms. Haag
Sa’ren Koob
Sa’ren is an amazing student. She comes in everyday willing to work and help out wherever needed. She is a leader in class and super responsible. Sa’ren is a pleasure to have in class!
Mr. Gwisdala
Riley Heimbach
Riley is an extremely hard and dedicated student. Sociology can be a tough subject for students to be open and participate in, but she steps up to the challenge. Riley’s positive attitude and work ethic is a pleasure to have in class.
Mr. Hays
Elliemarie Chemin
Ellie is doing wonderful in Algebra. She works hard to understand the material and makes sure to ask questions when she needs clarification. One thing that stands out to me about Ellie is her positive attitude. She greets me each day with a smile, and she genuinely seems to enjoy learning. Ellie is a joy to have in class. Keep up the great work!
Ms. Holth

Teacher of the Month!
Voted on by the students as Teacher of the Month! This teacher is a mentor and inspiration, consistently going above and beyond to support and guide students. Truly dedicated, they create an environment where every student feels valued, challenged, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Congratulations to Ms. Emily Holth!
"I chose this teacher because she is always there to help. Mrs. Holth is so kind to her students, and also very interactive with her class. I've gotten good grades in her class all year because she knows how to explain and give us examples kids understand. She is open to help improve our understanding of the topic we are on."
"She is always very helpful and makes sure you understand the content before moving on, as well as being careful not to overload her students."

Mrs. Westrick's AP Environmental Science Class
In Mrs. Westrick's APES class, students embarked on an engaging lesson about rock types and the rock cycle. The class began with a warm-up activity where students shared their ideas and definitions of what a rock is, laying the foundation for the day's lesson.
Next, they participated in an interactive lab that allowed them to explore the dynamic processes of the rock cycle firsthand. Through hands-on experiments, students cut, melted, and pressurized various Starburst candies (and saved some to eat too!), observing the changes that occurred in real-time. This immersive experience helped students grasp how rocks transform between igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic forms, deepening their understanding of Earth's geologic processes.
Student Spotlight
Our names are Haylee Kettlewell and Paige Woycehoski, and we’re juniors at Marysville High School. We competed in the Health Career display event and based our project on the life of a Registered Nurse. We have known each other since Kindergarten and became best friends during Middle School. We have seen each other grown up and influenced one another to be the people we are today. We decided to compete in this event because being a Registered Nurse is the common ground between our different career goals.
One day, Haylee hopes to become a Midwife and support hundreds of moms throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. On the other hand, Paige wants to become a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) and help people become comfortable before being put under anesthesia. We’re are honored to have been able to compete in this event.

Attendance Matters!
Nice work to our students who have dropped the absence total number from last month by almost 500! Our next goal is to limit tardies for the month of December...
Timely arrival to school is critically important to your child’s education. Arriving at school on time is important because it allows students the opportunity to be part of the classroom community and to have adequate time to prepare for the learning activities for the day. Students arriving after the bell miss their class mission, objective, and warm up. They limit their time to take tests and complete assignments, and miss bonding with their classmates to start their day. Besides the sense of community and belonging these activities bring, teachers begin providing interventions in individualized instruction as early as 8:00. Being consistently late can negatively impact your child in a variety of ways.
DID YOU KNOW?
Frequent tardiness can lead to lower grades due to missed instruction and participation.
Arriving late disrupts the learning environment for both the tardy student and their classmates.
Tardiness can negatively affect overall attendance records, which may impact school funding and resources.
Students who are often late may struggle to form connections with peers, leading to feelings of isolation.
Students who are frequently late may struggle with developing essential time management skills.
Patterns of tardiness can carry into adulthood, impacting future job performance and reliability.
The pressure of rushing to class can increase stress and anxiety levels in students.
We understand that there are a wide variety of reasons why students are late and absent from school, including unavoidable appointments and check ups. With that in mind, timeliness and consistent attendance when possible is critically important.
Attendance Information and Absent Notification
Attendance matters! Your child is allowed 10 absences per semester. Once your child has reached 5 absences in the semester, a letter will be sent home. If your child exceeds 10 absences an attendance meeting will be held with Dr. Jowett to implement an attendance contract for the remainder of the semester.
If your child must miss school please contact the office and let us know by 2:00 pm. You may either call us at the attendance line or call directly 810 364-7313. Remember to give us a reason for the absence so we can code it correctly (ie. sick, parent request, medical appointment, injury, bereavement, vacation etc.). If you do not contact us your child will be marked unexcused.
Planbook
This year, Marysville High School is utilizing Planbook to provide students with a single location to view their upcoming assignments and assessments for their classes. Parents, you can use this tool to stay up-to-date with what your child needs to complete and prepare for each week. A link to view Planbook should have been shared with you. If not, you may email your child's teacher to request the link. We are all in this together, and the more involved you are in your child's academic journey, the more likely they are to succeed.
Headphones and Earbuds:
Headphones and earbuds are expected to be off and put away during school hours. Headphones should not be out during passing time or in the hallways throughout the school day.
Keep your eyes peeled for our Elf on the Shelf at MHS this season!
