Principal's Message
Dear Elmdale Community,
It's worth the trip to Steinbach!
Since the mid 1980s, the local auto dealers have been leaning on this slogan to sell cars. While people are still coming to buy and repair their vehicles here, people continue to come to Steinbach to live and work. Did you know that here at Elmdale School, over 30% of our student students carry the EAL designation? EAL stands for English as an Additional Language. In our school we have students who speak other languages at home, including Tagalog, Ukrainian, Punjabi, Gujarati, Bisaya, Low German, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Persian, German, and Urdu.
It's worth the trip to Elmdale!
We are thankful for our multicultural student population and are passionate about teaching and learning. We are happy to meet with and support all of our students here at Elmdale School. The EAL students get extra teaching support from their homeroom teacher as well as our EAL teacher Mrs. Tadeo. Furthermore, all of our students get rich literacy instruction in their classroom. We are excited to be learning about and implementing UFLI (pronounced "you fly"), a program developed at the University of Florida to give our students the foundational skills to read.
By the way, the Mother Tongue chart at the top of this section is based on the statistical information for Steinbach from the 2021 Stats Canada census.
Warm Regards,
Mr. Anders Rempel

PAC Update
Hello Elmdale Families,
My name is Erin Williams, and I will be your new Elmdale PAC chair. My daughters have been enrolled at Elmdale for the past 7 years. Needless to say we love Elmdale and the school has a special place in our hearts. Over the years, I have built relationships with most of the teachers and staff, so I’m no stranger in the halls of Elmdale.
Here are a few steps I’m planning to take to make it easier for parents to get involved with PAC:
- Revitalize and implement the PAC constitution, ensuring each role is administratively light.
- Improve communication and transparency so that you’re always informed about what PAC is doing within the school.
- Create flexible volunteer opportunities for those who may not be able to attend PAC meetings but can still contribute, whether by offering fundraising ideas, volunteering for short-term projects like the play structure committee, or other initiatives.
- To create a welcoming and lighthearted environment where parents and community members feel comfortable sharing both their concerns and celebrations.
I’m also writing today to apologize for the delay with the new play structure. PAC has undergone many changes in recent years, and while being a smaller school has multiple advantages, one of the challenges is having a smaller PAC turnout. I understand how busy life can be, and it’s difficult to add another commitment to our schedules. That being said, I’m happy to announce that we are very close to reaching our goal! We now have enough funds for the play structure itself. We still need about $15,000 in order to get it installed.
If you are interested in helping out with the play structure project or you want to get involved with PAC, please feel free to reach out to us via elmdaleparentcouncil@gmail.com
Thank you so much for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Erin Williams
Pistons Partnership
This year, Elmdale School welcomes Steinbach Pistons hockey player Brayden Berg to the school community. He will be doing many volunteer hours at our school during the hockey season. He is a forward with the Pistons and has come from Alexandria, Minnesota to play hockey here in Steinbach. Through 10 games he has 8 points. Much of service here will be spent in the gym. We are thankful for this partnership with the Pistons hockey club.
Sick Days
From the HSD website:
Our teachers and schools are here to support your child’s learning, and your child’s well-being is important to us. Children who are sick should not attend school. Public health officials strongly urge anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms, such as a cough, fever, runny nose, sore throat, or headache, to remain at home. Children should stay home until they improve, which means no fever, and other symptoms are clearly improving for a couple of days.
