Congrats to 6th Graders selected for Strong Foundations Honor Band

Happy to share that all of our 6th grade band musicians have been selected for the Strong Foundations Honor Band in Sioux City on January 20. They will travel with the other Spencer public students and rehearse that afternoon and play a concert that night at 6 p.m. Kudos to Amelia, Simeon, Cash and Maya.

No lessons on Monday due to the Teacher Work Day. Also, I will be gone on Tuesday, so those lessons will be made up. Check the lesson changes part below.

Practice Tip:

Try starting your practice by playing some of the first pages of your lesson book. All of those whole note exercises are a good way to work on your tone and increase your breath control.

In addition to teaching private music lessons at IGLLS, I am a bus driver for the Spencer Schools, serve as chair of the Spencer ADA Council, direct the choir at Christ the King Lutheran and am a part-time janitor at Spencer Middle School. In my free time I enjoy reading, walking, biking, cooking and keeping up with my siblings Sue in Loveland, CO and David in Forest City.

My parents were both music educators. My brother and sister-in-law are band directors in Forest City, IA. My grandfathers were both ministers in the Presbyterian and Methodist churches.

Music has always been a part of my life and its fun to share this gift with our young people at IGLLS so they can add their praises to our Loving Lord in song.
