St Peter's Primary School
Friday 18 August 2023
Hail, Holy Queen enthroned above, O Maria!
Hail, Mother of mercy and of love, O Maria!
Triumph all ye cherubim!
Sing with us ye seraphim!
Heaven and earth resound the hymn!
Salve, salve, salve, Regina!
Message from the Principal
CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN - It is with great excitement that I confirm that our Capital Development Plan was approved at the beginning of this term. The building company selected by CEWA is Metrocon. We are in the process of completing all the required documentation and hope to meet with the building company in the coming weeks.
During this time, the Leadership Team will begin to plan the changes required during recess and lunch breaks to ensure students still have adequate play space during the building process.
UNIFORM UPDATE -The new elastic ties are now available from Uniform Concepts, in small and large sizing (elastic length). The existing tie style will continue to be available. The price for all ties is $21.50.
We have also been advised that the new school reversible hats ($18.50) and maroon polos will be available in Term Four.
INTERSCHOOL COMPETITIONS - On Tuesday, 8 August, four of our students entered an Interschool Chess competition held at St Paul’s Primary School. Huge congratulations to Raffaello Batacchi (5W), Stirling Grove (5W), Ben Dawes (5W) and Jessica Wang (6B) for their outstanding efforts!
On Friday, 11 August, eight of our students from Years 3-6 represented St Peter’s at the Regional Interschool Spelling Bee held at Trinity College.
The students were selected following an in-school competition, where they were required to spell words with a varying degree of difficulty. Congratulations to Evie Zekas & Thea Hoang (Year 3), Ishaan Jain & Ethan Doss (Year 4), Luke Ruehland & Oliver Johnson (Year 5) and Angelina Nguyen & Hamish Nielson (Year 6) who won their year level in-school competition and then represented St Peter’s at the Interschool competition, trying their best to spell some incredibly challenging words!
Congratulations to Sophia May (6M), Alice Busch (5M) and Jude Haidar (6B), who all represented St Peter's Primary School at the 2023 Speak Up 2023 competition. The Speak Up Awards is a community project of The Grand Lodge of WA Freemasons, providing students with an opportunity to express their views confidently, on a topic of their choice, using appropriate speaking skills.
PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL - Congratulations to all our students who have been involved in the Performing Arts Festival for Catholic Schools in Western Australia. Our students have represented our school in a range of individual and group performances already, including individual instrumental pieces, our choir, and the 4B Ukulele Orchestra. The Performing Arts Festival is a great opportunity for our students to showcase their talents.
I would like to wish our Year 4-6 Concert Band all the best form their performance tonight at Corpus Christi College.
I also send my best wishes to our Year 4-6 Dance Troupe who will be performing at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on Wednesday night.
P&F FATHER’S DAY BREAKFAST - At 7.15am on Friday, 1 September, we will be celebrating all the Dads and Father Figures in our community with a breakfast prepared by the P&F. We always get a huge number of attendees at this event and there is always an energetic, happy and positive feeling throughout the undercover area. Our classroom teachers will open their classroom doors at 7.45am, giving Dads and Father Figures the opportunity to visit their child/ren’s classes. Thank you to all the parents and St Peter’s staff who volunteer their time to make this a successful and enjoyable event in our school calendar.
MISSION DAY FUNDS - The success of Mission Day in Term 2 demonstrates the strength of our school community’s commitment to giving back. The Mini Missionaries Milo Morning, organised by the Kindy students, at the beginning of Term 3, was a heartwarming addition. We are so proud to have raised a combined total of $888 for the St Vinnie’s Winter Warmth Appeal.
St Peter’s commitment to spreading Christ’s love to those in need shines through these events. The involvement of students, teachers, and the broader community in these activities showcases the power of unity and compassion. Congratulations on the success of these events!
GREAT BOOK SWAP - Thank you to all the families who donated or bought a book. Together, we raised $310.50. This money has been sent to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. The remaining books were donated to the Warriapendi Child and Parent Centre in Balga. The centre supports First Nations, refugee, migrant and local families. The CPC were grateful for all the wonderful books.
BOOK FAIR AND BOOK WEEK - Commencing Monday, 21 August (Week Six), we will be celebrating Book Week and hosting a Book Fair. The Book Fair will be held in the Library from Monday to Thursday 8-8:30am and 3-3:30pm. I would like to thank Mrs Georgie Bertoldo for
co-ordinating this event and all the parents who have volunteered their time to assist during the week.
Throughout this exciting week, our St Peter’s Dads has extended an invitation to all Dads and Father Figures to come into the classroom and read a book to the students in their child/ren’s class/es. The purpose of this is to engage Dads and Father Figures in the school community, as research shows that schools that specifically target Dads and Father Figures will see better outcomes for students.
We are holding our Pre Primary – Year 6 Book Week Dress-Up Parade on Friday, 25 August at 9am in the Undercover Area.
I am looking forward to seeing many excited and happy faces next Friday when everyone arrives in their Book Week costumes!
Have a fabulous weekend!

THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION - We came together as a whole school this week to celebrate the feast of The Assumption of Mary. Mary was chosen to be the mother of Jesus. She was considered to be perfect in the eyes of God. Although she became the Mother of Jesus, Mary was a simple woman who lived according to the customs and traditions of her Jewish faith. Mary is the perfect role model of living a faithful life from which we all should aspire.
Mary is also our greatest role model as a Mother, and we recognise that as a new mother, she would have gone through many hardships. The Year Two classes led this beautiful Mass and celebrated the Assumption of Mary, body and soul into Heaven, by praying for mothers within our community who need our love, friendship and support.
VERONA FACTION DAY - The school was a sea of green on Wednesday as we celebrated the faction of Verona. During the week, buddy classes got together to learn about St Verona through a variety of activities. Faction day has been a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about their faction Saint. We will be celebrating Angelico at our next Faction Day in Term Four.
SAFEGUARDING MASS - National Child Protection Week 2023 will occur from 3rd -10th September, culminating in Safeguarding Sunday on 10th September.
The 2023 theme - Every child, in every community, needs a fair go – is complemented this year with “Where we start matters”.
It is an important opportunity to raise awareness and engage, educate, and empower Australians to understand the complexity of child abuse and neglect, so we can continue to work together to prevent it.
Where we start our lives in terms of where we live, the resources available to us, and the opportunities presented to us make a significant difference to our life outcomes, matters.
Where we start as a faith-filled community in offering children and their families support and assistance makes a significant difference to life outcomes, matters.
Where we start as decision-makers in addressing large complex policy problems of child abuse and neglect, also has significant personal, social, and economic outcomes and matters.
There will be a safeguarding Mass led by our Spiritual Ministry on Sunday 10th September at 5pm. We would love to see many families attend this Mass to highlight the importance of child protection.

Person of the Week - 11/08/23
EVIE ROBERTS - YEAR ONE WHITE - Evie, it is such a privilege to present this person of a week award to you in recognition of the incredible young lady that you are. Mary MacKillop once said, “never see a need without doing something about it.” Evie, you truly embody this every day, always going over and above to selflessly look out for others. You consistently model the St Peter’s TRUE values in all that you do. You demonstrate what it means to live like Jesus through your words and your actions. You can be trusted to consistently make good choices. You are always willing to help with a classroom task, be a buddy for others or empower your peers with an encouraging smile, without expecting anything in return.
Evie, your unwavering level of respect for others is aspirational. You are truly dedicated to fostering unity in the classroom. You always strive to be and do your best. Your cheerful and bubbly nature fills the room with warmth and positivity every day. It is no surprise that your name means “a woman who enjoys life” because Evie, you certainly embrace each day with open arms. Your zest for life is infectious. My hope for you is that you never forget that “the world needs who you were made to be”.
Evie, you are truly one of a kind and I am so lucky to be your teacher! It is an absolute pleasure to award you as Junior Person of the Week!
SHAMILYZ CHEONG - SIX MAROON - Shamilyz, just as St Peter was the rock on which Jesus built his Church, you are a rock of faith and TRUE values within our classroom and the wider school community. You have quickly demonstrated yourself to be an exemplary student, whose humble leadership skills have given our classroom a solid basis on which to model itself and build upon.
Jesus instructed St Peter to, 'Feed my lambs... tend my sheep' (John 21:15-17), and just like St Peter, you care for and guide all of those around you. Shamilyz, you display empathy in each of your dealings with your peers, and quietly go about assisting students in need, without seeking any accolades or acknowledgement. You show an abundance of respect to your teachers and let them know that you value each and every lesson and demonstrate your gratitude by always being eagerly engaged in all classroom activities. Shamilyz, your dedication to excellence serves as an inspiration to your peers, motivating them to strive for greatness.
Just like St Peter, Shamilyz, your strengths lie in your leadership and your ability to take care of others and show compassion. As you take your final steps towards Graduation this year, we look forward to seeing the Holy Spirit continue to grow within you, and help you remain committed on your journey of love, compassion, and leadership, that so strongly lives within your heart already.
Congratulations on being awarded St Peter’s Senior Person of the Week!
