Cedar Hill Football Defeats Mansfield Legacy, 42-7
The Cedar Hill High School Football Team used a big second half to score an emphatic 37-6 victory over Mansfield Lake Ridge on Senior Night, last Thursday at Longhorn Stadium. Here's a photo gallery of the game.
After taking a 10-0 halftime lead, the Longhorns (5-5, 4-3) outscored the Eagles (0-10, 0-7), 27-6, in the second half.
Cedar Hill is playoff bound for the fifth time in six seasons. Longhorns first-year head coach Nick Ward became the first CHHS head football coach to make the playoffs in his first season. He also went 3-1 in road games this season, and 3-0 against Mansfield ISD schools. To read the rest of the game recap, click here.
The Longhorns will visit 6A-12 Tri-Champion Pflugerville Weiss (9-1) at 7 p.m. Friday.
"We'll have to play a good game to beat them," Ward said. "They're very good in the passing game, and they're a disciplined team."
Thus far, Cedar Hill's farthest road was approximately 30 minutes away at Forester Stadium in Dallas. On Friday, they'll travel 2 hours and 39 minutes down Interstate 35 to Pflugerville.
"That's why you train your kids to be ready for that type of environment," Ward said. "It helps being in the district that we're in because we've seen the big crowds before. We're used to it, and that's what comes with the playoffs."
The Cedar Hill/Pflugerville Weiss winner will play North Forney (8-2) or Garland (7-3) in the second round of the playoffs next weekend.
Cedar Hill Senior Night
Cedar Hill High School first-year head coach Nick Ward was a CHHS assistant in 2020 and 2021 when the Class of 2024 players were freshmen and sophomores. Ward was an assistant at Midlothian in 2022.
"It doesn't happen very often that a coach comes back and the same kids are around," Ward said. "I missed one year with them, but it was an honor to be back with them because they are a great group of kids."

Rhyan Hunter: Cedar Hill ISD Star of the Show (Sponsored by Texas State Technical College)
Cedar Hill High School senior Rhyan Hunter is in her third year as a member of the Cedar Hill Highsteppers Dance Team.
“The best part of being on the team is genuinely creating a sisterhood with these girls – like they are, real life, your family when all else goes wrong,” Hunter said.
Hunter was the Cedar Hill ISD Star of The Show, sponsored by Texas State Technical College for the week of November 3.
Hunter moved to Cedar Hill as a freshman and joined the Highsteppers the following year.
She plans to attend Southern University and A&M in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she’ll major in Medicine and minor in Dance.
“I then plan on going to medical school and following my dreams of becoming an orthopedic surgeon,” Hunter said.
She’ll always have fond memories of her time at CHHS.
“My peers and teachers are truly some of the best parts of coming to school daily,” Hunter said.

Cedar Hill Volleyball Completes Record-Setting Season
The Cedar Hill High School Volleyball Team won its first playoff match in 11 years, sweeping Copperas Cove in the UIL Class 6A Bi-District Round at Robinson High, near Waco.
The victory was the Lady Longhorns' program record 30th of the season.
Two nights later, Cedar Hill faced 6A-9 Champion Rockwall, in Richardson in the Area Round. Rockwall prevailed, 3-1.
Cedar Hill reached several milestones this season - just three years after winning two matches, in 2020.
They defeated Waxahachie for the first time in more than 15 years, eventual 6A-11 Champion Mansfield for the first time in eight years and swept Mansfield Lake Ridge for the first time ever.
Cedar Hill, along with Mansfield, were the only 6A-11 programs to advance to the second round this season. Mansfield was eliminated by Royse City in the second round.

Cedar Hill Boys Basketball To Open 2023-2024 Season at South Oak Cliff
The Cedar Hill High School Boys Basketball Team reached the Regional Quarterfinals for the first time in eight years last winter.
But Longhorns fifth-year head coach Corey Chism – a 2001 Cedar Hill High School Graduate – believes there’s still room for the program to grow.
“We showed what we are capable of doing, and now, they’re ready to do even more,” Chism said of the Longhorns, who are ranked #16 in the Class 6A preseason rankings.
“This group approaches the game the right way, and they put in the work on a daily basis. This team is definitely trending in the right direction. They have a genuine desire to do something special.”
Last season, Cedar Hill earned close victories over Hutto and Wylie, respectively, before a close loss to Mansfield Legacy in the Regional Quarterfinals.
The Longhorns will open the 2023-2024 season at 8 p.m. next Saturday in the Jimmy Gales Classic at South Oak Cliff. On November 14, they’ll host Fort Worth Eastern Hills in the home opener.
There’s five seniors on the team.
Cedar Hill returns seven varsity players, including starters Trenton Thomas, Nicholas Addison and Jerrin Goodwin. Returning letterwinners include Parker Stribling, Darius Edwards, Trae Smith and Royal Watts.
