Lincoln Decker, Sophomore
Nominated for YAIAA Football Athlete of the Week: Was 7-for-9 for 119 yards and two touchdowns, longest of 45 yards.
Malik Dickens, Senior
Nominated for YAIAA Football Athlete of the Week: Carried 11 times for 114 yards and a touchdown in 42-7 win over Northeastern; 126 all-purpose yards.
Junior Achievement REAL Life
We need your help! On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, Junior Achievement of South Central PA will be at Dover Area High School with their REAL Life Program. All students in 11th grade will be participating in the day-long program. It consists of a series of activities all intended to help students gain an appreciation for the importance of owning their own economic success.
Half of the day is spent in our Budget Builder activity. The other half has students gaining an understanding about going out into the real world after high school. The REAL Life day is intended to help students gain an appreciation of the importance that financial decisions will play in their lives as young adults. The program will inspire students to appreciate the key issues surrounding personal finance and the importance of getting good advice as they make decisions.
For this day to be a success, we will need volunteers to facilitate ONE of the REAL Life activities for the day as students rotate through your station. If we do not have these volunteer spots filled, we are in danger of not being able to run this meaningful event. Please also share this opportunity with friends, neighbors and colleagues who may be interested in helping the students of our school. I have attached a flyer with all of the information for the day and a direct link for you to sign-up.
You do not have to be an approved school volunteer to help with this day. Junior Achievement will provide online training as well as on-site support to all volunteers.
Please consider volunteering and join us as we spend the day empowering and inspiring our students. This opportunity is only possible with the support of wonderful volunteers like you.

Safe 2 Say Training
On September 10 and 11, 2024, Officer Shaffer from NYCRPD will be leading training sessions about using Safe2Say. The Safe2Say Something program was established within the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General through Act 44 of 2018. Safe2Say Something is a system for anonymously reporting unsafe, potentially harmful, dangerous, violent or criminal activities in any school in Pennsylvania. The program teaches youth and adults how to recognize warning signs and signals, especially within social media, from individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others and to “say something” BEFORE it is too late. With Safe2Say Something, it’s easy and confidential to report safety concerns to help prevent violence and tragedies.
ALICE Training
The high school will be providing ALICE training to all of the students on Tuesday, September 17, during MMA. Mrs. Fasick and Officer Shaffer will be conducting this training from the TV studio and broadcasting to the whole school in their individual MMA classes. The training (which is linked below) is meant to empower the students and help to plant the seeds of what to do in case of an active shooter scenario. Unfortunately, this is a life skill that everyone needs to have, as these situations can happen anywhere, not just at school.
During the training, students will have the opportunity to discuss what is being taught and have the opportunity to ask questions. Each teacher in each classroom will have a live chat open with Mrs. Fasick and Officer Shaffer to ask any student questions or gain clarification. Students will not be leaving the building, hiding, or countering as part of the training. The only active/physical part of the training will be a 30 second activity that will require pre-selected students to demonstrate how fast they could barricade or block a door in the case of an emergency.
Please take an opportunity to preview the material that will be used in the training with the students. Then each family can follow up with their student after the training on October 17.
PSAT/NMSQT Registration
The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is more than good practice for the SAT, and the scores are more than just a number. Whether you're thinking about college or career options or aren't sure yet what to do after high school, the PSAT-related assessments can help make your path clearer. Students who take the PSAT/NMSQT and meet other program entry requirements specified in the PSAT/NMSQT Student Guide will enter the National Merit Scholarship Program, an academic competition for recognition and scholarships conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

ASVAB Testing
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is offered to interested 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students at Dover Area High School on Thursday October 3, 2024 from 8-11:15 AM. The ASVAB is the most widely used multiple-aptitude test battery in the world. As an aptitude test, the ASVAB measures your strengths, weaknesses, and potential for future success. The ASVAB also provides you with career information for various civilian and military occupations and is an indicator for success in future endeavors whether you choose to go to college, vocational school, or a military career. The ASVAB is required for those who wish to join the military and is also a highly valuable assessment for those who don’t want to join the military but are trying to discover what career area they may be best suited for.
Scoring 31 or better on the ASVAB is a demonstration of student career readiness and will satisfy state requirements, according to Act 158, for students who have not met the Keystone testing requirements. Students who have not scored proficient or advanced on all 3 of the Keystone tests OR whose three combined scores (must also have at least one proficient or advanced score and no below basic scores) do not add up to 4452 should consider taking the ASVAB to meet the state's Act 158 requirements.

STUDENTS MUST REGISTER USING THEIR DOVER STUDENT EMAIL ACCOUNT. USING AN OUTSIDE EMAIL ACCOUNT WILL NOT ALLOW REGISTRATION.
DAHS Why Statements
At the beginning of the year, the DAHS staff took time to reflect and explore their "Why". Understanding their "why" is crucial for teachers because it connects them to their core purpose and passion for education, guiding their actions and decisions in the classroom. When teachers know their "why," they are more motivated and committed, which fosters a positive and inspiring learning environment. It helps them stay focused on their goals, even during challenging times, and ensures that their teaching methods align with their values and beliefs. This clarity not only enhances their professional satisfaction but also positively impacts student engagement and success, as students are more likely to thrive under the guidance of a teacher who is driven by a clear, meaningful purpose.
We have decided to share our "Whys" with everyone to show our commitment to making DAHS the best learning environment possible.
Homecoming 2024
Homecoming 2024
Plans for homecoming 2024 are underway. This year's theme is Tangled. The homecoming dance will be held on Saturday, October 12 from 7 - 10 pm in the high school gym. Tickets will be on sale 10/1 - 10/8 in the school store during all lunches. Tickets will be sold for $20 each, and students can make purchases using cash or credit cards. Students bringing a guest must return a homecoming guest form in order to purchase tickets. Guest forms can also be picked up in the guidance office.
The homecoming parade will be held on Wednesday, 10/9 at 6:30 starting at Dover Elementary and ending in the stadium. There will be a food truck and Farm Show milkshakes available for purchase. After the parade, the Marching Band will perform and the homecoming court will be announced.
On Friday, 10/12 the homecoming king and queen will be announced as part of the pre-game festivities.

In order to be eligible to attend a school-sponsored dances, students must:
Be Conduct eligible
No Tier 3 disciplinary infractions in the prior three months
Not have an excessive referral count -
Semester 1 - 5 or more referrals for the school year
Semester 2 - 10 or more referrals for the school year
Be Attendance eligible
Absent for no more than 10% of school days to date, including excused and unexcused absences. (THIS IS A TOTAL OF 4 DAYS FOR HOMECOMING.)

Behavioral Health Screenings
The physical and mental health of young people plays a key role in their ability to succeed in school. Dover Area School District is committed to working with you, not only in the academic education of your child, but also to ensure that students reach their full potential outside of the classroom. The past year has unveiled significant changes in our student’s mental health, and we are committed to the health of the whole child.
It is in this spirit that we provide the universal screening of Behavioral Health for all 9th grade students. These universal screenings dates will be held 9/30-10/4 at the High School. For more information, please read the Behavioral Health Screenings informational letter for parents.
Class Fees
1:1 Device Protection Option
The Dover Area School District has invested in a 1:1 program to prepare students for success in the workplace. Students can take their assigned devices home; however, they remain the property of the Dover Area School District (DASD) and are configured to maximize students' learning. Students must take care and responsibility for these devices. An optional device coverage fee is available to all students receiving a 1:1 device to ensure that the district can repair the damaged devices. This plan will cover the student for two incidents of accidental damage per school year: only on the device itself. Cases and other hardware are not covered, and prices are listed in the table below. Students who do not purchase the device coverage will be responsible for the total cost of repair or replacement of the device in the event of intentional damage or loss. For more information on the program, please see the linked document.
If you are interested in purchasing the coverage, please log into your Skyward Family Access account, click the Fee Management icon, then click on the words "Make a Payment." A separate window should open for you. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact your student's building.
If you wish to enroll in the 1:1 Device Protection program, all fees must be paid by September 31. Failure to register before this deadline means you will be fully responsible for all damages to school issues devices at the prices in the attached link.
Parking Permits
School Dances (Homecoming/Prom)
In order to participate in a school-sponsored dance, a student must be in school the entire school day on the day of the dance. For a dance that is scheduled to take place on a non-school day, a student must attend the entire school day immediately preceding the event. The exception is a doctor’s note, a SERF form, or school approved shadowing.
QUALIFICATIONS
In order to be eligible to attend a school-sponsored dances, students must:

Students who believe that an exceptional circumstance exists may request a waiver of these qualifications. The request must be submitted in writing to the school principal prior to the conclusion of ticket sales.
2025 Yearbook Information

CTE News
Attention 12th-grade CTE Students. The Pre-NOCTI Exam will be held on September 26, 2024, at 8 a.m. in the LGI. If you are to take the Pre-NOCTI exam, you will be contacted. Remember, the NOCTI Exam is not a Pass/Fail exam. It is an Exam for the student to show their knowledge in their specific Technical Program.
The Dover CTE High School Department has two new members. Please help us welcome them to our Dover CTE Family.
Miss Lucabaugh
Miss Lucabaugh is our new Commercial and Advertising Arts CTE Teacher. This is her 6th year as a teacher. She recently graduated from Millersville University with her Master’s in Curriculum and Assessment. She is also an alumni of Dover Area School District. She graduated in 2014 and was part of the first graduating class to go through the Commercial and Advertising Arts program in the CTE Department. In her free time, she enjoys kayaking and spending time with friends and family.
Mrs. Ural
Mrs. Ural comes to us from industry, where she spent over 20 years in Human Resources. She is also an adjunct faculty member at York College. Mrs. Ural will teach all of the classes in the Marketing program and lead the students in the operations of The Red Zone School Store. She will also work with Mrs. Gross to advise the DECA CTSO organization.

Eagles Nest - FCFCU Newsletter
The Eagles Nest Is Open!
We are excited to announce that the Eagles Nest, a Branch of First Capital Federal Credit Union, is back officially back open for the 2024-2025 school year - but we do have a change in our days of operation. This year, we will be open every Thursday and Friday from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm during all lunches, as well as during various special events throughout the school year. Stop by to say hello to School Branch Coordinator, Kayla, and our new Student Ambassador Will!
Students and parents…what is the Eagles Nest you may ask? The Eagles Nest is a fully operational branch of First Capital Federal Credit Union inside the Dover Area High School cafeteria. The branch gives students the opportunity to perform transactions, further their financial education, and help prepare today’s young adults for their future. First Capital staff also visit various classrooms throughout the year, teaching financial education lessons such as budgeting, understanding credit, and more!
We also offer the exclusive Dover Dollar$ stamp card program to Dover High School students. Students who open an account at the Eagles Nest will receive a Dover Dollar$ stamp card. Then, for every $20 deposit or cashed check, the student will receive one stamp. Once the student has collected 20 stamps, he/she will receive a $20 deposit into his/her account.
