Inspiring Excellence
Casa Grande Union High School District | August 2024
Following the recommendation of our Administrative Team, the CGUHSD Governing Board has adopted a new document titled “Our Commitment to Excellence.” The document states that our Mission is “All CGUHSD students will graduate college and/or career ready.” Our district did see an increase in the percentage of students not graduating after the COVID-19 pandemic. Our graduation failure rate is slowly returning from the high of 31% after the pandemic. Some may say we should have established goals of 80% and then 90% graduation rates, given we dropped to 69%. Although we would be pleased with a graduation rate of 90%, it does establish that we are okay with 10% of our students not graduating. As a parent or stakeholder, we realize the most important statistic is if your child graduates, not 90%. Stating that “All CGUHSD students will graduate college and/or career ready” is an example of what we mean in “Our Commitment to Excellence” when we use the philosophy “your child is our child, is it good enough for our child.” My children understood in high school that graduating was non-negotiable. Both struggled at times while attending high school, as most students will. The stance of “you will graduate,” not “you can graduate,” is an example of a growth mindset we need for all students to graduate. Finally, graduating from high school should be the minimum requirement. Our district will create a task force focused on increasing the percentages of graduates attending post-secondary education, training, and career readiness. Casa Grande is on the verge of an economic boom with all the jobs created by our industry partners. We want to ensure our students are ready to take advantage of this boom if they stay in our community. Please reach out to me if you need any assistance in assuring the academic success of your child(ren).
Have a wonderful last month for the Summer of 2024.
