West Point El. Parent Update
Week of November 17, 2024
Dear West Point Families,
Happy wintry weather! This weekend was a good reminder that students need to bring warm coats, gloves, etc. to school each day. We go outside for recess, even when it's cold, unless the temperatures are extreme or it is rainy/snowy.
Here are three important things to know for the coming week.
- Be sure to mark your calendars! There will be no school on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, November 27-29 for Thanksgiving Break.
- Community Council will meet this Wednesday, November 20 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the WPE Conference Room.
- Yearbooks can be purchased on myDSD. They cost $15.00 through December 31. Prices go up to $18.00 starting January 1.
We hope you have a wonderful week. Every day is a great day to be a Wildcat!
Sincerely,
Marjorie Conrad and Christie Bouy
Principal and Administrative Intern, West Point Elementary

Experience the Magic
Magical Manners
This week's manner is "Learn to Compromise." This is such an important skill for student and adults to learn, and it is a way to show others that we care enough to find solutions that work for everyone.
52 Modern Manners for Kids
November's LETTERING Focus - G is for Gratitude
This month we are focusing on Gratitude. Gratitude includes being thankful and showing appreciation by using kind words or doing a kind deed in return. Students have the opportunity to practice gratitude each day.
From health.harvard.edu, "In positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships."
November Brag Tags
Please encourage your students to earn their November brag tags! Students can earn a brag tag if they have 0-1 absences for the month. They earn their reading brag tag by reading at home at least 18 days during the month.
WPE Christmas Ball
Our students get the opportunity to go to the ball this December! Our Christmas Ball will be a pretty awesome Glow Dance Party! As students complete behavior challenges over the month, they will move the hands of the clock back to midnight. They will earn the ball and will then earn glow-in-the-dark accessories, etc. to use at the dance. We are looking forward to a magical time!
Lion King, Jr.
This year's musical is Lion King Jr. This opportunity is available to all 4th, 5th, 6th graders who are interested. Applications will be available to pick up on Monday November 25 in the front office.
- Audition sign-up slips are due on or before Monday, December 2 by 3:30 p.m.
- Auditions will be December 16, 17, and 18 after school.
- Musical Performances will be March 20, 21, and 22.
