Important Notice

New Daily Period Attendance Automatic Phone Calls and Emails

Recently, the district changed procedures for automatic messages notifying parents via phone call and email for attendance. The new process will alert parents of "period" or bell attendance. Blackboard connect will now pick up any absence up to 11:00am, and then again at 4:00pm.

Please keep in mind, that this is not a perfect system and is still reliant on user input. If you feel that you received the message in error, please feel free to contact the school.

Communicating with Northside

asknorthside@nps.k12.va.us- should be used for any communication with Northside, except for notification of absences. Parents reporting Covid/Flu symptoms and positive Covid/Flu should also use this email. Please make sure you let us know the following: Student's Name, date symptoms started, and date tested positive. This will help us expedite the response.

NorthsideAttendance@nps.k12.va.us should be used for any communication regarding absences from school including absence notification, and submitting excused notes.

Our Northside STARS are doing great things, and we want to reward their positive work towards the goals of improving literacy, attendance and accountability. Students are nominated each week and will be recognized on STARZ Morning News and presented with a goodie bag. The items on this list will help Northside provide incentive for staying focused on the goal and reward our Students That Are Ready to Succeed.

Northside Swag Shop

Northside Swag Shop is now open. Now our Northside families can show their support for Northside by purchasing swag. Items are on sale in the main office. Payment methods: Cash, Credit Card, and Cash App.

Attendance Matters

According to research, regular school attendance plays an important role in a student’s achievement and success. Attendance tips for a successful year:

1. Establish a regular bedtime and morning routine.

2. Avoid appointments and extended trips during school hours.

3. Keep track of your child’s attendance using ParentVue.

4. Emphasize the importance of regular school attendance with your child.

5. Discuss and address any anxiety, barriers, or negative feelings your child may have about school.

6. Communicate with the school and ask for help if needed

Contact our Attendance Technician Earlene Bell at ebell863@nps.k12.va.us if you need support with your student's attendance.

We're excited to announce an upcoming Attendance Recovery Program aimed at reducing chronic absenteeism among our students. The Virginia Department of Education is rolling out this initiative to combat chronic absenteeism across the state. As part of this initiative, students will have the opportunity to recover missed days of school by participating in meaningful instructional outside of regular school hours.

For every three-hour period spent in these activities, students will be able to recover one day of absence, up to a maximum of 15 days. This program is designed to provide students with a proactive way to address absenteeism while engaging in meaningful instruction that support their overall growth and development.

Baking/Cooking Club- Sponsor: Ms. Webster (kwebster@nps.k12.va.us)

Open to everyone. Must attend mandatory safety meetings prior to participating.

Chess Club- Sponsor: Mr. Cipalla (jcipalla@nps.k12.va.us)

Open to anyone interested in chess. Club will meet on Wednesdays after school.

Chorus Club- Sponsor: Mr. Sims (jsims536@nps.k12.va.us)

Everyone is eligible to join. Club meets Tuesdays & Thursdays after school.

Courtroom Law- Sponsor: Mrs. Lawler (elawler163@nps.k12.va.us)
Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)- Sponsor: Ms. Bagwell (kbagwell@nps.k12.va.us)
Garden Club- Sponsor: Ms. Field (kfield@nps.k12.va.us)

Must have good behavior and passing grades to join. Club meets every Wednesday.

"Grow-It"/Entrepreneur Club- Sponsor: Ms. Smith (rsmith4@nps.k12.va.us)

Open to students who are interested in building their own business.

Poetry/Rhyme Club- Sponsor Mrs. Jenkins (cjenkins930@nps.k12.va.us)

Northside Athletics 2023-2024

All students who would like to participate in any sport (conditioning, try-outs, and games) must have a completed sports physical dated after May 1, 2023.

we encourage all student athletes to visit their primary care physician for a comprehensive physical before competing in athletics. We do offer on-site physicals throughout the year (See latest schedule listed above) for individuals who cannot obtain a comprehensive physical. The cost is $20.00 (cash only). Please access the physical form (MS and HS links below) and fill out parts I, II, and IV prior to attending an onsite physical at one of our on-site locations. If any of the three parts are incomplete before attending an on-site physical, the student athlete will not be given a physical on that day.
