Student Led Conferences
Rising Sun Elementary School believes that students should be actively involved in their learning and assume responsibility for the learning process. Students can do this at a very young age, if taught properly. Through student led conferences, students become more
motivated, reflective and evaluative. They also become more critical in their approach to learning.
Traditional conferences are very teacher driven, very short with little time for conversation and tend to focus on social and emotional rather than academics. That doesn't mean they do not have an important time and place. We encourage and request many traditional conferences each year and hope you do the same should you have specific concerns about your child. Student driven conferences occur at the end of each marking period and provide you with more talk time with your child about their learning, provide high accountability and opportunities for goal setting. Samples of work with authentic assessment are also included.
We also use this as an opportunity to recognize students accomplishments and recognitions. Marking period Awards will be given out at this time. This includes perfect attendance, good attendance, and honor roll.
*Due to limited space in classrooms, we are limited to 1 adult per student. Must be on the emergency contact list for the student. Younger non-school aged siblings/children are not permitted to attend.
