From Your Pastors
Dear Zion family –
Zion is a proud partner with the Texas District Church Extension Fund, which is a loan servicer and investment firm for our church body. One the ways the Church Extension Fund blesses congregations who have investments with them is by providing an annual loan rebate check. We received word this week that Zion’s 2024 loan rebate check totaled $34,362.86! We’re grateful for how God continues to provide generously for this ministry through partners like the Church Extension Fund and, most importantly, through you!
This weekend is Zion’s Spring Sausage Sale. You can pick up your sausage orders this Sunday anytime between 9 am and 1 pm in the gym. If you’d like to help make sausage, all the fun begins this Saturday at around 7:30 am in the gym. Making sausage is a terrific way to make new friends and, at the end of our work, you’ll get to share in a delicious lunch. Bring a dish to share, and we’ll see you there!
This coming Wednesday, March 5, is Ash Wednesday, a day which begins a season of the church year called Lent, when we reflect on Jesus’ journey to the cross. To recognize this special day, our school will hold a chapel service at 8:15 am in the sanctuary, followed by an evening church service at 6:30 pm, also in the sanctuary. During these services, we will offer the imposition of ashes, where the shape of a cross will be placed on our foreheads using ashes, which is meant to remind us of the stain of our sin that is washed clean by the cross of Christ. We will also share in Communion at our evening Ash Wednesday service. Please join us for these special services and for all our special midweek Lenten services, which will be held each Wednesday at 6:30 pm in the sanctuary.
In worship this weekend, we’ll conclude our series called “History’s Most Memorable Message,” where we’ve been studying Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. As we wrap things up, Jesus will encourage us to take everything He teaches and put it into practice in our everyday lives in Matthew 7:24-27:
“Everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
Jesus encourages us to practice what He preaches. He also warns us there can be profound consequences if we don’t. But have you ever struggled to do what Jesus tells you to? What then? Find out how to continue to grow in listening to and living by what Jesus says, this Sunday in worship. We worship at 8 am in our beautiful historic sanctuary, at 10:45 am in our wonderful worship center, or online at zionwalburg.org.
Your pastors love you!

A Note to Boards and Committees about Fundraising
To help facilitate all the incredible ministries of Zion, sometimes, boards and committees host fundraisers. If you are a leader on a board or committee who is planning a fundraiser to support a Zion ministry, we ask that you fill out a fundraising request. These requests help us ensure that each fundraiser gets the time and space it needs, and that multiple fundraisers don’t get scheduled at once. Request forms are available through the church office. Thanks for all your support as we work together to manage the gifts God gives us to do ministry!
2025 Bible Reading Plan
Have you ever closed your Bible and thought “what did I just read?” Starting January 12, we will partner with The Bible Recap to read through the Old Testament. The Bible Recap is a chronological reading plan with a daily podcast that highlights and summarizes the Bible in an easy-to-understand way. It will not only help you read scripture but help you love reading it. Click the button below for the reading plan or paper copies are available in the Lobby and Narthex.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Our family is so humbled by the number of folks that loved Roy and love us. The visitation and funeral were so filled with love for us. We thank you for the cards that meant so much to Roy and each time he would receive one, it made him smile. The reception was wonderful and the food was delicious. God has always been in charge of the cancer journey we were on and we know Roy is smiling down on each of you and our family. God bless each of you.
In Christ, The family of Roy Arldt

Lenten Devotions Now Available
Lent begins on March 5, and the new Lenten Devotional is titled "Servant of the Lord." In this devotion collection, we see Jesus teach His disciples, heal the sick and hurting, and endure scorn and mockery. We also see Him display the love of God, when He took our sins upon Himself, so that we might be raised to life through the power of His resurrection.
The "Servant of the Lord" devotions are available FREE for online reading or by email subscription at lhm.org/lent. It can also be downloaded for your personal use.
