Weston Wonders October Edition
We are set for a great October!
From the Principal
Dear Weston Families,
Our students are off to a wonderful start! It will be a year filled with handshakes, hugs, high-fives, and smiles. Expect your child to grow in so many ways—academically, socially, and emotionally! We look forward to a wonderful partnership that will help each and every child be successful in the 21st Century.
Over the course of the first month, your child has learned the expectations in their classroom, and around the entire building. Your child will continuously learn the “B” code—be responsible, be ready, and be respectful. Go over these ideas with your child at home. Here is a vital character trait that Weston will instill in your child with your help; BE NICE!
One of our favorite things to do at Weston is to build relationships. We are thrilled to be able to build relationships with Weston Families. One way to grow with relationships around Kearsley is to come and cheer on our Hornets and have dinner for Kearsley Homecoming on October 5.
Again, thank you to all of our Weston families for a great start to the school year. I look forward to continued opportunities to learn from and spend time with each of you. Please do not hesitate to call me if I can be of assistance to you or to your family.
Douglas Hibbs, Principal
I am very proud of our students and staff!
*Please make sure to sign up for conferences at Weston on November 7th and 8th. No School on November 9th.

Go Hornets!
Halloween Parades at Weston are set for October 31!
We will be celebrating Halloween at Weston. We want to have fun without too much fright at Weston! We ask children and parents to choose costumes that do not frighten our young students. This means no scary masks, weapons, blood, etc… We are anticipating a happy and safe celebration and invite families to watch our parade! Please note the following guidelines:
Weapons (guns, swords, etc…), fake blood, frightening make-up, and scary masks are not permitted. We ask the same of adults visiting the school that day.
Please watch for classroom notes for specific classroom party and parade details!
All parents are welcome to attend the parade, but due to space limitations and safety issues, we ask that only those who have prearranged with the classroom teacher attend the party!
The parades will be outside. If we have poor weather, rain or snow, the parades will be cancelled.
The first grade (1st) parade will be on 10-31 at 10am.
The Kindergarten (K) parade will be on 10-31 at 1:30pm.

Principal's Academic Piece
Reading
Two of the most important parts of reading are building oral language and reading (independently). Talk with your child and help him/her learn new words. Read on a daily basis!
Math
Count and constantly talk about numbers. What number is between 55 and 57? Even when your child is correct, “5+6=11”, ask them how they know that is true. Just saying because is not an acceptable answer.
Writing
Say oral stories with your child/children. Then put those oral stories on paper. Write about playing in the backyard, camping, boy scouts, girl scouts, sports...you can make a small moment from any event.
