Bulldog Nation Insider- 9/16/24
Our weekly newsletter with important information!
Principal's Corner
Happy Monday Bulldog Nation Families,
I want to thank our parents and guardians who have stressed the importance to their children of not spreading misinformation and creating rumors, but reporting unsafe behavior directly to adults. Thank you to our parents for reporting this information to school administration and for partnering together with us in our number 1 priority, of keeping our school safe. In this world of social media, we take all information seriously, investigate it, and work together with school safety and local law enforcement to keep our school safe. We also recognize that you as parents have to make decisions that are in the best interest of your children and your families. I want to stress to you, that as a staff we do everything that we can to keep your children safe. If school is open, and in session, we believe that it is because it is safe to do so. Education is a partnership, and we appreciate the trust that you extend to us everyday you bring your child to school.
Talking about partnership, we have Parent-Teacher-Conferences this week. While not every student & family will have a scheduled team conference, there will be drop-in conferences for all students/families from 6:00-7:30PM on Thursday, September 19th in the Cafeteria. We hope to see you there! Just a reminder that Dismissal on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week will be at 12:16PM.
Finally, our Cooling Tower project has begun! Demolition started this morning on the Cooling Towers and will continue this week. Be aware that the alley along Mountain and between the Loading Dock & Santa Rita Avenue will likely be blocked off during drop-off and pick-up. Also, the Loading Dock will be closed for drop-off and pick-up tomorrow, and possible other days this week. You may still use the West Parking Lot for drop-off and pick-up, however we will direct students to the front doors on 6th Street during these times. Thank you for your flexibility and patience during this construction period.
Yours in the service of education,
Luke van Schie, Principal

Student Code of Conduct Corner
As we navigate this world of social media, I wanted to highlight the section of TUSD's Student Code of Conduct that applies to School Interruption. While social media is often used at home, what students post, or say online, can impact the school day. Please encourage your child to refrain from saying or posting things that would place another student in apprehension of harm. It is a level 4 violation. See TUSD's Student Code of Conduct for more information on the Levels and their Consequences here.

Students Learn about 9/11
7th Graders in Social Studies are learning about the events of Sept 11, 2001. Students design a monument to commemorate the tragic event. Students will hear stories, watch video clips and interview an adult to gain perspective and knowledge of the day and the after-effects. Students will then plan, design and construct their memorial with the given supplies. They will write an explanation of why they chose to create the memorial the way they did.
Girls Who Code Opportunity
The University of Arizona's Girls Who Code Club is a free, year-long program designed for 6th-12th grade girls but open to all gender identities. The club meets weekly from September to April on Saturdays from 12-1:30pm at the UA Main Library. We are the only 6th-12th grade club in Arizona run through a public university--this gives club members the unique opportunity to interact with UA students and faculty and learn what it’s like to study computer science and engineering. No prior coding experience is required to participate and laptops are provided during club meetings. Questions? Email Dr. Stephanie Murphy (sumurphy@arizona.edu)
Parents/Guardians can register their youth for enrollment using this link or the QR code on the flyer. Registration closes on September 19th, 2024 and accepted students will be notified by September 21st, 2024. Space is limited due to capacity so register today!
