Principal's Message
Welcome to Week 31 of the school year!
On Monday, April 8, there will be a total solar eclipse across the U.S., as the moon's shadow moves from Texas northward through Maine. Per NASA, outside the path of totality, the rest of the continental U.S. (including Lodi!) will experience a partial eclipse. The amount of the sun covered by the moon at maximum eclipse depends on the distance from the path of totality. The next time such an eclipse will cross the U.S. is 21 years from now!
To ensure the safety of our students and staff while viewing this event, we are providing solar eclipse viewing glasses to all students in grades K-12. These glasses are specially designed to protect the eyes from the sun's harmful rays during the eclipse.
Eclipse glasses will be distributed to students on the morning of April 8.
We look forward to observing this phenomenon with our students. To learn more about what to expect during the 2024 total eclipse, visit NASA’s website.
As a reminder, if you would like your student to eat breakfast before school and you are transporting them to school, please drop your student off with ample time for them to eat. Students arriving after the school day starts at 8:00 am will be considered tardy and directed straight to their classrooms for instruction.
Have a great week, Davis Tigers! Go to Davis, Go to College!
Spring Testing
Dear Lodi USD Parent/Guardians,
Every year, California students take several statewide tests. When combined with other measures such as grades, class work, and teacher observations, these tests give families and teachers a more complete picture of their child’s learning. You can use the results to identify where your child is doing well and where they might need more support.
Your child may be taking one or more of the following:
- California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP)
- English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC)
- Physical Fitness Test (PFT)
To see the full information on the above assessments, please visit our Assessment, Research, and Evaluation (ARE) Department website.
Chromebooks
We want to bring to your attention the importance of discussing the proper care of district-issued student Chromebooks with your children. We have observed an increase in incidents involving damage, often linked to carelessness or misuse. As we address these situations, we want to remind you of the importance of engaging in discussions with your child about the proper care of their district-issued Chromebook. Students will be held responsible for any damages, and charges may apply for repairs. Principals will conduct thorough investigations in collaboration with students to ensure fair outcomes. Additionally, please remind your students to charge their Chromebooks overnight, ensuring they are ready for the next day's learning activities. Your involvement in these discussions is crucial, and we appreciate your attention to these matters.

Morning Dropoff
Please remember that the front gate does not open until 7:40 am as there is no supervision for students prior to this time. It is important that students come to school dressed appropriately for the weather including wearing jackets or sweatshirts that will keep them warm. If your student did not bring home a jacket or sweatshirt they wore to school, please remind them to check our Lost and Found in the cafeteria.
Students who wish to eat breakfast in the cafeteria should arrive no later than 7:45 am. For students arriving by bus, please proceed immediately to the cafeteria. The cafeteria will be cleared out 15 minutes after the latest bus arrives to ensure that students do not miss instructional time.
Lunch Options For The Week
Announcements
Please send your student to school in appropriate attire, including shoes! Our dress code can be found in the Student Handbook in your student's planner or online. Students are expected to wear closed toed/heeled shoes. Students with sandals, slides, or Crocs will be asked to sit out during recess and PE to ensure student safety on the playground and in the bark box.
Picking Students Up
Please remember that if your student has not yet been dismissed and you are in the loading zone, staff will be asking you to park or loop around to allow other parents to load their students who are waiting. We also ask that you model safe behaviors and use the crosswalk. Our Tigers know this is a Tiger Tenet and a way to be safe!
We thank you for your patience and for working with our staff to ensure dismissal occurs smoothly.
COVID-19 Guidelines for California Schools (K-12)
We want to bring your attention to the recent updates in the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) COVID-19 guidelines for K-12 schools. The revised guidance now allows individuals who test positive for COVID-19 but remain asymptomatic to return to work and school without the need to stay home. However, it is crucial to note that students showing symptoms are strongly encouraged to wear masks. This adjustment in guidelines reflects a more flexible approach to managing the virus, aiming to strike a balance between public health concerns and our evolving understanding of its impact. For additional information, please read updated California Division of Public Health – COVID-19 Isolation Guidance by following this link: https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/COVID-19-Isolation-Guidance.aspx. Your ongoing cooperation is vital in ensuring the safety of our school community.
Have You Reported Your Students' Absence?
If your student will be out, be sure to call the office at 209-953-8301 to report your their absence. Students who have a medical or dental appointment will need to bring a note from their doctor upon their return.
Additionally, it is important your student arrives on time, ready to learn. School starts at 8:00 am and students are expected to be in their classes at this time. If students are arriving to school late, they are missing critical time that sets the structure for their day, including instruction and warm-up activities.
