No School Monday, January 15th, to honor Dr. King
The History of Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday
Martin Luther King Jr. Day was created to honor the civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.'s contributions to the American civil rights movement and his advocacy for racial equality and justice. The day is observed annually on the third Monday of January in the United States, near Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday on January 15.
Efforts to establish a holiday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. began soon after his assassination on April 4, 1968. However, it took several years of activism and advocacy before the idea gained enough support to become a federal holiday. President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law on November 2, 1983, and it was first observed as a federal holiday on January 20, 1986.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is not only a time to remember and celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. but also to promote and reflect on the principles of equality, justice, and nonviolent activism that he championed throughout his life. It serves as a day of national service, encouraging individuals to engage in community service and contribute to the ongoing struggle for civil rights and social justice.
ACP Makeups continue this week!
ACP Makeups Occurring this Week!
As we adventure into the new semester, students who missed their ACPs will be pulled for makeup ACP testing. There will NOT be additional make-up if a student misses their test session. It is critical that students and advisors review the advisory slides for students to know when they will be testing. There are two sessions daily.
