From our director, Audra Peterson:
November, 2024
Dear Parent or Guardian:
- We are very excited to invite you to our annual Open House for Porter County Career and Technical Education at Porter County Career & Technical Center and our many other locations on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Please double check times on the linked form as some locations do have modified times. Many exciting things are happening here, and we are anxious to share with you what our current students are learning and what opportunities lie ahead for them upon completion of their training in CTE.
- Students may choose from several different pathways that provide a wonderful opportunity to explore careers, earn college credit, earn industry-recognized certifications, gain entry-level positions, and boost academic skills at the same time. Programs are offered to high school juniors and seniors. Students complete an enrollment form to be considered. This step is part of the scheduling process with the high school counselor. Students are then invited to attend their junior and/or senior years. They are encouraged to list backup choices to help ensure a placement. Spots are limited. Applying on time is one factor for a successful application.
- Programs available are Automotive Technology, CAD/Animation, Computer Tech Support, Civil Construction, Construction Trades, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Diesel Services, Early Childhood Ed, Education Professions, Electrical Maintenance Tech, and Energy Technology. Also, Fire & Rescue, EMT (seniors only), Graphic Design, Health Science Education I, Health Science Education II (seniors only), Horticulture, HVAC, Industrial Maintenance, Precision Machining, Radio/TV, Sports Medicine, Strategic Marketing, Veterinary Careers, and Welding Technology. We just added a Fashion/Textile program at Hebron High! Porter County CTE services students from the following high schools: Boone Grove, Chesterton, Hebron, Hobart, Kouts, Morgan, Portage, Valparaiso, Washington Twp, and Wheeler.
- Students also have the opportunity to visit our website and to reach out to our teachers for information. Our website is pccte.org. Online CTE applications are due by Feb. 1, 2025, or before. Once again, come and join us on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Help your sons or daughters choose to “Ignite their Future”! A second visit opportunity will take place on Jan. 23, 2025 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The visit schedule can be reached by a link we have provided:
