Principal's Notes
Happy Mother's Day to all of the Moms in our lives! Blessings to all of them on this special day.
Congratulations to our 2nd Graders for making their First Holy Communion. They did a wonderful job and were well prepared by their parents, and teachers. Thank you to Ms. Zina and Mrs. Skorohod for their hard work in preparing them for this milestone.
A sincere thank you to the PTO for all of this past week's gifts and treats in recognition of National Teacher Appreciation Week. The entire school staff and faculty felt appreciated and blessed to part of an our caring community.
Spring Concert: Our Spring Concert for students in Grades K – 8 will be this coming Thursday, May 16th, at Cardinal Spellman High School, 738 Court Street, Brockton. Saint Bridget students and families will be allowed to enter the building at 6:30 pm. Parents should escort their child(ren) to their classroom teachers. We ask that Parents and additional family members fill in the middle section of the auditorium first. The concert will begin at 7:00 pm. We ask our families to honor the times, as set-up work will have to be done prior to 6:30 pm. Students should be dressed in their Spring best!
Jay's Crazy Sock Day - This coming Friday will be the fourth annual "Jay's Crazy Sock Day" in recognition of the exceptional sprit of Jay Doherty. In addition to loving crazy socks, Jay was a friend to everyone and spread joy to those around him. He was known for his compassion for those in need and never missed a chance to express his love to his friends and family.
Jay's family initiated a scholarship fund here at SBS to annually acknowledge students who exude Jay's spirit. Each year the funds raised during "Jay's Crazy Sock Day" are contributed to the scholarship fund, along with funds raised by Jay's family and friends. The scholarship will be awarded annually to students at the last school Mass of the school year. Please join me in making a donation!
I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
All my best,
Matthew Collins
Principal

School Spotlight - Guidance - Mrs. McDonald
Our Guidance counselor, Mrs. McDonald, is at SBS to help students who are having social and emotional challenges and she also has Guidance classes in grades K-5. During Guidance class, Mrs. McDonald accomplishes many things. She works really hard at teaching students coping strategies for stress and anxiety, bullying prevention, SEL lessons, empathy building, and communication skills. Guidance class is also a time when students participate in the Second Step Program. Second Step is a classroom-based program designed to increase students’ school success and decrease problem behaviors by promoting social-emotional competence and self-regulation. It offers direct instruction and teaches skills that strengthen students’ ability to learn, have empathy, manage emotions, and solve problems.
This week in Guidance class the Kindergarten students were learning about personal safety rules. Mrs. Mc Donald showed students a picture card of a safety rule and explained what the safety rule was. Then, the students gave reasons for following the rule. For example, one rule was when in a car to sit in a car seat or on a booster and wear a seat belt. The students enjoyed raising their hands and giving lots of reasons that they should wear a seat belt when in a car. Some responses were that “boosters and seat belts keep you safe” and that they “protect you.” Another rule that the students discussed was reasons to wear a helmet. The kindergarteners gave suggestions such as wearing a helmet when biking, skiing, hover boarding, and snowboarding. In these discussions, children learn valuable tools in speaking, listening, and communicating thoughts. The Second Step program gives students an opportunity to learn about making good choices and to talk about ways to stay safe.
Mrs. McDonald’s favorites: Restaurant: Tsang’s; Vacation: Italy; Fruit: pineapple; Pie: strawberry-rhubarb; Scent: lavender; Sport Team: Red Sox; Animal: dog; pets: Ms. McDonald beloved dog Pogue passed away in October.
