LCSD Teacher of the Year
We are excited to share that Mica Parker, first-grade teacher at Heath Springs Elementary, has been named LCSD's Teacher of the Year! She was given a $1,000 check to spend in her classroom and Burns Ford graciously gifted her a new Ford EcoSport for the year. You can watch Mrs. Parker's surprise on our district Vimeo page HERE.
Buford High Music teacher, Ne'Torrian Patton has been named LCSD Beginning Teacher of the Year! He received a check for $500 to spend in his classroom. You can watch Mr. Patton's surprise HERE.
Both Mrs. Parker and Mr. Patton have set the bar high. They are both amazing teachers. We couldn't be more proud to have them on our team.
Congratulations to all of our school-level Teachers of the Year!

National School Lunch Week
To recognize the National School Lunch Program, serving nearly 30 million children each day, Lancaster County schools will celebrate National School Lunch Week next week from October 10-14, 2022. The fun and creative campaign theme, “Peace, Love & School Lunch,” highlights the importance of a healthy school lunch to a student’s success both in and out of the classroom.

Comporium Affordable Internet
The Affordable Connectivity Program is a $14-billion program broadband adoption created by Congress. This federal program evolved from the funding mechanisms that arose during COVID and is designed to help close the digital gap in terms of affordability.
Comporium opted into the program when Congress rolled it out earlier this year. What that means for residents living in our service footprint is that they could qualify for the home broadband service for free.
That includes the following:
100 x 100 Mbps (Fiber) or 100 x 3 Mbps (Cable Modem) at no cost
No data caps and no throttling
No additional installation or equipment fees
They also have the option to upgrade to higher tiers and still receive monthly discounts too.
Any household is eligible if a member of the household meets one of the criteria below:
Participates in the FCC’s Lifeline program
Has household income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines (level adjusted from EBB Program)
Participates in a Lifeline-qualifying government program
Received a Federal Pell Grant in the current award year
Participates in free & reduced-price school lunch program or school breakfast program
Participates in the Special Supplemental Nutritional Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

Bank of America Teacher of the Year
Leading the Way Award
The Richard W. Riley College of Education at Winthrop and our Rex Institute offers an annual award—the Jessie Little “Leading the Way” Award—to recognize the exceptional teachers who not are not only successful in their classrooms but also invest their time and talents to help others be successful teachers. This includes teachers who mentor beginning teachers (or even veteran teachers), who work with pre-service teachers in their field and clinical placements, or who are Teacher Cadet teachers.
We seek nominations from across South Carolina. The teacher who receives the Leading the Way award receives up to $2,500; and, fortunately, the funding to date has allowed us to also recognize the runners-up with a monetary award.
Please click this flyer link for more information: Leading the Way Award Flyer
Submit nominations for the "Leading the Way" Award HERE by Friday, October 14, 2022.

See Something, Say Something
There are three ways you can report school crime:
- By completing the fillable form HERE (this form can also be found on the front page of the district website)
- By emailing the information to say.something@lcsd.k12.sc.us
- By calling or texting the information to (803) 320-1672
This crime line is for reporting such incidents as a weapon on school grounds, bullying, harassment, threats, vandalism and alcohol or drugs on school grounds. If you prefer to speak to someone from our safety staff, you may call (803) 320-1672 or (803) 285-6009.
State law and board policy require that law enforcement be notified of criminal behavior committed on campus or during school-sponsored activities.
Please note: In case of a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 immediately. This crime line is not monitored 24/7.
Trustees Awards
School principals are responsible for submitting names of individuals or groups from the school or school area that the board should recognize.
Winners of a national or a state award will be presented with a Trustees Award during a regular Board of Trustees Meeting.
Congratulations to the following September Trustees Award recipients:
