1950's women in music
Stereotypical ideology of women in society.
How did Music influence stereotypical ideology of women within the society of the 1950's?
Although, women have been viewed in varying ways throughout the years the 50's stand out the most because the end of world war II and emergence of the cold war times. Women had just came out of war time, working in jobs typical of men, and easily conformed to being housewives while men provided all incomes, in just a few years.
Why the need for a picture perfect ideology of America?
Due to the ongoing cold war of the period, America felt the need to be superior compared to communist. The horrors of communism in the lives of Russian women were shown through means of propaganda. These women were forced to work in factories while their children were shipped off to anonymous daycare centers. In order to make democracy look better than communism American women were shown in their delicate dresses, with their time consuming hair do's, and tending to hearth and home of the family, enjoying the "privileges" of capitalism, democracy, and freedom.
