HEALTH SCIENCES AND ENGINEERING VISIT UMO
The Health Science and Pre Engineering programs explored the nursing and engineering programs at Orono as part of their career exploration and college experience. This visit allowed students to get a firsthand feel for the campus environment, determine if the school is a good "fit" for them, meet current students and faculty, ask specific questions about academics, student life, and financial aid, and ultimately make a more informed decision about where to apply and attend college, which cannot be fully achieved through online research alone. Engineering students received an in depth tour of the new Ferland Engineering Education and Design Center. Special thanks to Professor Masoud Rais-Rohani, Professor Brett Ellis, and Kyle Guerrette for their time and insight. Thank you to MELAC Education Foundation for providing transportation for this field trip.
CAREER PANEL
On Thursday, November 4th, our senior students participated in a career panel event featuring speakers from various professional backgrounds. Students learned about essential professional skills such as interview techniques, interpersonal communication, and workplace expectations.
We extend our gratitude to our career panelists:
- Moderator: Kate Howell
- Scott Solor
- Todd Silvestri
- Rachael McGill
- Chris Toy
- Greg Thompson
- Isis Skoby
- Anthony Jamison
CRIMINAL JUSTICE
Criminal Justice students have been learning proper radio procedures, how to greet and talk to violators, and how perform a safe traffic stop. Keeping themselves and occupants of the stopped vehicle safe is imperative.
In addition, students continue to work on their physical fitness. Staying healthy is important to help with the stress of life and work. We also warm up prior to learning hand cuffing techniques and self defense.
