Happy 2025 to all students, parents, family members and the entire Sherman community! We hope you enjoyed time with family and friends over the holiday break and are ready to start 2nd semester of the 2024-25 school year! I am so excited to see all of our students smiling faces (although a little groggy because it is so early in the morning) this coming week! With our return to school it also made me think…WOW!…hard to believe but we are half-way through this school year. Second semester officially starts on January 6th.

BRRR! Sounds like the cold heart of winter will soon be upon us! Thanks for your careful attention in making sure your child(ren) are properly dressed for the weather. We try to go outside for lunch recess daily unless the temperature is extremely low and the conditions are unsafe. Some students also may be outside waiting at arrival and dismissal everyday. Just a reminder with winter here, students are not to be on school grounds until 8:30 am as we do not have supervision before then and dismissal is at 4:05 pm daily. Check out the Lost and Found if your child is missing mittens, hats, scarves, and other items that have been misplaced or let the Health Office know of any winter wear needs as we have many hats, gloves, and scarves and a few coats to share.

Before the holiday break, there were numerous district communications about school selection for the 2025-26 school year. If you are making a change of schools please see the information below in the newsletter above the Counselor/Social Worker Corner. All School Selection Choices must be completed by the last week of January. If you have any questions, please call the Sherman office, (531) 299-2060.

The new year is off and rolling and we are already rocking at Sherman! In addition to regular daily instruction and review of our schoolwide routines and procedures, students and staff are continuing to focus and prepare to take a number of assessments (district and state). All students K-5 will be taking the Mid Year MAP Math test this month and Grades 3-5 will take the NSCAS Reading, Math and Science Tests in March and April.

As you can see, our calendar is full in the coming weeks and we need your help to ensure students are on time and ready to learn each day! Thanks for your support!

Con nuestro regreso a la escuela también me hizo pensar... ¡Wow!... Es difícil de creer, pero estamos a mitad de camino de este año escolar. El segundo semestre comienza oficialmente el 6 de enero.

¡BRRR! ¡Parece que el frío corazón del invierno pronto estará sobre nosotros! Gracias por su cuidadosa atención para asegurarse de que su(s) hijo(s) esté(n) vestido(s) adecuadamente para el clima. Tratamos de salir para el recreo del almuerzo todos los días a menos que la temperatura sea extremadamente baja y las condiciones no sean seguras. Algunos estudiantes también pueden estar afuera esperando a la llegada y salida todos los días. Congratulations to all of our 4th and 5th grade students who participated in our Sherman Spelling Bee earlier in December! It was a spelling battle to the end with 12 rounds of spelling words given with Alexa Ruiz Ramirez named Spelling Champion and Bentley Evans named Spelling Runner Up! Awesome job Alexa! Good luck to Alexa when she participates in the OPS District Spelling Bee representing Sherman on February 6th, 2025!!

The school selection process for Omaha Public Schools families begins in January. Students will have the opportunity to apply for a 2025-26 school placement and visit the middle and high school open houses. School choice applications will be available in January. All Omaha Public Schools students are guaranteed attendance at their Home Attendance Area (neighborhood) school. Updates and more information will be posted at www.ops.org/schoolselection

Kindergarten Roundup starts in December for registration. All Kindergarten Registration is online for the 2025-26 school year. Below is the link to complete for registering your student for Kindergarten. In May 2025 incoming Kindergarten students can visit Sherman, see their classroom and meet the staff. Omaha Public Schools wants to ensure that students have a smooth transition into their new kindergarten class. Families can find more information on our district website under Enroll My Child.
