Principal's Message
Eagle Families,
As many of you have heard, next year I will be leaving TLES to assume the role of Principal at Rancho Elementary School. The past seven years have included some of the most rewarding experiences in my 25-year career so far. I have LOVED working with this amazing staff and getting to know the kids and families. Our promoting 5th graders who began in TK here started the same day as I did. And, their last school day at TLES will also be mine. What a blessing it has been to watch them learn and grow.
During this last chapter, we experienced fires, earthquakes, Covid, and distance learning, and we overcame those challenges together. But, we have also been named a California Honor Roll School, won first place in Science Olympiad many times over, were named a California Green Ribbon School two years in a row, and have more clubs, leadership opportunities, and family nights than any other elementary school in the district. This is why this year's theme is "Amazing Things Happen Here." I am so proud of the work we have done and am happy to be handing over such a wonderful, healthy, and productive school to Mrs. JoeAnna Hernandez. She will love it here, and I know you all will welcome her and show her how awesome our eagle community is!
Additionally, I would also like to inform families that our current Assistant Principal, Ms. Nicole Allen, will also be changing schools and will be the Assistant Principal at Crowne Hill Elementary. She will be swapping roles with their current Assistant Principal, Michelle Nelson, who will be assuming the AP role here. Ms. Nelson is also highly regarded. I am confident that you will be in good hands with your two new school leaders.
Please know that TVUSD will periodically move school administrators so that each school can experience different leadership styles and benefit from the unique talents each administrator brings. I can't wait to hear about how TLES will continue to grow and thrive under the new leadership and with the continued support of our amazing parents, volunteers, community partners, and PTA.
Thank you all for your support through the years and through this last week. I appreciate you and will remember our "Once an eagle, always an eagle" motto. I will make a point to come back when they return for their Walk of Gratitude senior year!
Until then, I wish you an amazing last few days and summer break. Please scroll below for some important reminders.
Sincerely,
Lani Russi
Principal, TLES

Avoid the Summer Slide!
Want to avoid the Summer Slide? We have a solution, iReady, and it will be available until August 1st. Please have your student log into iReady as they normally do in their classrooms. Also, ensure your student works independently and gives their best effort as this is an individualized learning path to meet their specific academic needs. We have seen students not slide but make academic growth over the summer simply by completing 2 lessons in each subject weekly on iReady. There are 10 weeks of summer. We understand that families take vacations, make great memories, and cannot access iReady after August 1st, so if students complete and pass (with 70% accuracy) 10 lessons in math and 10 lessons in reading, there will be a special prize for them when we return in August! Please support your child's academic growth and set them up for success next year!
