Ms. Anita's Class News
September 2017
Our Month Of Learning
Children are learning, understanding, and adjusting to the new Nursery Rules and Routines. Below is a summary of our studies in English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies across the month of September.
Science and Social Studies
We have been engaging in our "Beginning of the Year" unit. Our primary theme has been All About Me - family, body parts ,classroom schedules and routines.
Literacy
We Introduced the letter sounds "s" and "a'' working with flashcards, dot markers, and pictures. We introduced syllabification to the students through their names, including with songs during our circle hour.
Math
Our daily routine starts with counting numbers from 1 to 30. We have introduced numbers and values of 1, 2 and 3. Students learned the circle shape and the colour red through more hands-on activities.
Foreign Language
We played some introductory games to get to know each other. We also introduced a routine to the class, which begins with songs, followed by an introduction of vocabulary through repetition and jingles.
So far, we have introduced numbers 1,2,3,4, and 5, as well as the top body parts (eyes, nose, mouth, head, ears), and greetings - hello/good-bye. Below are the links to the songs that we will be learning and singing in Spanish class:
- Patitos (ducklings): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ipalNwf5iY
- Bebé tiburón (baby shark): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtwCZowcGuw
Gymnastics
We introduced new students to stretching, and for the returning students, this was a great review from last year. To start off our first few weeks, we practiced our gross motor skills, which include jumping, balancing, and hanging.
Music
They have been practicing singing and repeating familiar nursery rhymes to stimulate their aural, vocal, and musical abilities. We are using pitch exploration stories to make connections with sounds and animals, objects, and situations from real life. Also, they are making connections with their body language and expression while imitating sounds and movements of different animals. They continue to explore instrument sounds and use them to accompany the rhymes we sing together.
The teachers are having fun getting to know all of your kiddos. Our classroom is buzzing with excitement, laughter, and learning! I look forward to working in partnership with you for the education of your child. Please do not hesitate to see me or email if you have questions.(Anita.g@newyorkacademy.com). We are looking forward to a great year at NYA! Happy Dussehra and have a great weekend :)
