A Message from Ms. O'Donnell
Dear Daniel Morgan Middle School Students and Families,
We are looking forward to welcoming everyone Monday for the first day of school! It is going to be a great year at DMMS. Please know that due to changing enrollment, there may be changes to your students schedule, in particular electives classes. Please look at your student's schedule on PowerSchool tonight and see if there were any updates. We ask students to bring their schedules on the first day, but if they forget, we will have extra schedules available for pick up. A few reminders for the first day:
- All students should arrive at school with a backpack and a water bottle. Please contact your school counselor if you are in need of those items. DMMS will provide the remaining items for school.
- All entering 7th grade students are required by state law to have updated vaccines before attending school. Students must have their Tdap booster and the first dose of the Meningococcal vaccine. There is also an optional HPV vaccine. Please ensure your rising 7th grade students has received these vaccines prior to the first day of the school year. If you have any questions, you can contact our nurse Doug Shaw at shawd@wps.k12.va.us.
- Please review the WPS Student and Parent Handbook with your student. In addition, note the DMMS cell phone policy. Cell phones, smartwatches, and earbuds must be off and away at all times. If parents or guardians need to contact their student, they may call the office. If a student needs to contact home, we have a phone in the front office for students to use.
- At this time we are not taking scheduling change requests. If you have any schedule related requests or concerns, please contact the office or a school counselor.
- Athletics are a great way to get involved in our school! If you are interested in playing a sport, please ensure you get your sports physical as soon as possible! You must have a sports physical to try out.
- The first day of school is MONDAY!
- Doors open in the morning at 8:00. Students should be in the building by 8:15 for homeroom. Students arriving after 8:15 will receive a tardy pass for class.
During pick up and arrival, all parking lots on the Daniel Morgan Campus will be closed for parking. Parents are not to park in the lots between 7:50-8:15 or 3:00-3:30. Anyone who parks and waits for their child will be required to move.
Transportation changes are accepted each day until 2:30. All students leaving early must do so before 2:45. Students may not be picked up early between 2:45 and 3:30.
I look forward to working together to ensure another successful year for everyone at Daniel Morgan Middle School!
