Mustang Memo May
Nixon-Smiley Middle School
Message from the Principal
NSMS Family,
We are in the final countdown of the school year and I feel like it has all flown by so fast. We have finished our STAAR tests and I am very proud of how hard all of our students have worked to show what they have learned all year. We still have a few more weeks to the school year where the teachers will be working to make sure your child is prepared for the next grade. Although we have some fun activities coming up in the next few weeks, we will still have content to cover and learning happening daily. Please continue to remind your child that even though we are approaching the end of the year, we still have to continue to work hard daily so that we can finish out the year strong.
As we embark on this last month of school, I want to take time to thank the entire community for their support in helping our students reach their full potential. As the saying goes, "it takes a village." I am thankful our "village" is such a supportive one. Thank you to each and every one of you that always looked to do what is best for our kids. I am very thankful to our staff, families, and entire Nixon community for all that they have done this year and am looking forward to the 23-24 school year and all the joy and success it will bring for our students.
Thank you,
Brittany Rogers

Course Requests
We will be going into the 5th, 6th, and 7th grade classrooms next week and talking to them about their course options for next year. Your child will bring home a course request paper. When they do, please review it with them to see which classes they would like to take, make any changes you would like, sign it, and send it back. They will be inputting their course requests into the computer the week of May 15-19 and this will be what we use to build their schedules for next year.
A Note from the Counselor
This month our focus is on Integrity in which we learn about doing the right thing no matter who is watching. Find out more in the Capturing Kids Hearts Newsletter in English and Spanish.

Student Self-Care Tip: Ready to get organized? Did you know that being unorganized can lead to stress and anxiety? Who wants that? Start small by cleaning and organizing your room and go from there.
