Meadows Message from Mrs. Krz
September 27, 2024
Dear Meadows Community,
What a week we have had! We had our first earthquake drill, Picture Day, a visit from author Stuart Gibbs (pictured with Meadows librarian Jennifer Rementer and me), a visit from MBPD Officer Hamilton, a spirit rally, and Movie Night. I hope that this week has given your child(ren) a lot to talk about when they came home.
Next week will start the month of October. Please remember that there is no school on Thursday, but there IS school on Friday.
Please be sure to see the events below so that you don't miss anything!

United Against Hate: How to Take to Kids About Race
Today and every day, it's important to talk about kindness, fairness, and acceptance for all. Here's a short and sweet video that shares that talking about race with children shouldn't be avoided, but that it also doesn't need to be complicated. This was found on the website for United Against Hate Week.
Gaga Ball - Playing by the Rules!
This year we moved back from playing Gaga Ball with our feet (during COVID times) to playing with our hands, which is the originally intended way to play. I filmed some upper grade students playing Gaga Ball this week and created a "How To" video for the school. I hope that you agree that games run better when everyone understands the rules.
No School October 3
Ice Cream Social at Meadows - Oct. 4
Online Safety for our Children - Oct. 4 at Mira Costa
Parents must sign in through the main office for a visitor pass at MCHS the morning of the event.
Author Visit by Stuart Gibbs for Grades 3-5
Our third, fourth, and fifth grade students enjoyed their visit with New York Times bestselling author Stuarts Gibbs to share his twelfth book in the Spy School Series, Spy School Goes Wild on Tuesday.
Mr. Gibbs is a talented speaker who was not only informative, but very funny! His books focus on humor and mysteries and are written for tweens and teens. If you haven't sampled his work yet, try it today!
School Resource Officer Hamilton Visited Meadows Elementary School
There's nothing like a visit from our School Resource Officer, Officer Hamilton, to liven up a lunch. He shared many high fives, answered questions, and generated positive vibes all around. He visits throughout the year to not only maintain a presence, but to show our students that our MBPD is there to protect, serve, and show how much they care about our kids!
Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair - Oct. 5-6
The Hometown Fair is set for the weekend of October 5-6. You can start the festivities with the Saturday morning opening day parade. Then watch artists, bands and performers throughout the weekend on three separate stages. Later you can win prizes at game booths and enjoy more than 200 fine arts and crafts booths, delicious food and beverages booths from local non-profits, Civic Corner and Community Place area.
Walk and Roll to School - Oct. 9
Please join us on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 for Walk and Roll to School Day! Parents, school administrators and local officials will be lacing up their sneakers and helping Beach Cities schools start their day with a fun walk to school.
Skechers Pier to Pier Walk - 10/20
Teachers, please encourage the parents in your class to sign up for this fundraiser!
Please join your friends, neighbors, and classmates on Sunday, October 20th either in-person or virtually for the Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk. The money raised supports The Friendship Foundation kids, and our own kids at Meadows. For 2024, our goal is to have 223 walkers (in-person or virtually) represent Meadows.
Your generous donation will go a long way toward making a difference for thousands of kids throughout our community; from helping children with special needs make lifelong friendships, to improving our schools with better equipment, programs, and additional material.
Please sign up today! Be sure to designate your contribution to MBEF so your registration supports our schools through MBEF and the Meadows PTA.
Thank you for your support!
Best,
Jennifer Zook Greene & Stephen Hodgson
