Volunteer for Multicultural Day
Multicultural Day will be held on Friday, Nov. 17 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. This year students will learn about other countries and cultures while traveling through Mexico, Asia, Europe, the Pacific Rim, Latin America, and Africa. It takes many hands to make this day a success, and we are currently seeking country instructors in all grade levels. If you have some time to give, please consider helping us celebrate diversity on this amazing day. If you are available to help, please email the MCD committee at mcd@madisonschoolpta.org. or talk to Rachel Bailey or Tone Rosen directly.
P.E. happenings
The P.E. department is seeking 4x6 photos of Madison students playing sports/fitness/Lego activities for the P.E. hallway. Categories include: running, baseball/T-ball/softball, soccer, golf, football/cheerleading, basketball, Legos and miscellaneous (swimming, hiking, etc.). Please label and send us your photos!
All K-5 students will be roller skating during their P.E. time the week of October 23. Each student will need to bring in $7 cash for equipment rental. Students are not allowed to bring in their own skates, but helmets and wrist guards are required and may be brought from home. This fun activity requires help from parents. Please consider volunteering your time.
Please help your child remember gym shoes and socks every day for P.E. Students also may bring in their own goggles for throwing games.
Questions? Please contact your P.E. teacher -- Mr. Cortesi, Mr. Fry or Mr. Spontak.
Check out what's happening in the LLC
Madison’s Library Learning Center is ready for an exciting year! Students have checked out books and learned about taking care of books and returning them on time. During the year, students will hear book talks, explore authors and illustrators, learn how to find books on their own using the Computer Catalog, research a variety of topics, use technology, and create in the GetFIT Lab. Fourth and fifth graders learned how to check out and check in their library books. Fifth graders participated in a “Library Boot Camp,” where they had 12 days of intensive library review to become independent library users and to learn how to help other students in the library.
Students may check out materials anytime during the school day, with their teacher’s permission. Weekly, kindergartners check out two books, first graders check out three books, second graders begin with one and will work their way to six books. Third, fourth, and fifth graders may check out six books. No fines are charged for overdue books, but if a book is lost or damaged, a replacement fee will be charged.
Reading and being read to is a wonderful experience. Please feel free to visit Madison’s Library Learning Center to explore. I look forward to working with your children this year.
Questions? Contact Mrs. Graham, Library Learning Center Director, at diane.graham@cusd200.org

Madison’s GetFIT LAB has a new look
Thank you to the PTA for funding new stools and carts for the GetFIT Lab. FIT stands for the Future of Instructional Technology. This space allows opportunities for students to create, build, tinker, fail, and think critically. It promotes hands-on learning and collaboration. Student challenges are aligned to STEAM and the Next Generation Science Standards and are aligned to this year’s FIT Guide goal of contextualized learning.

Bring your gardening tools, wheelbarrows, and gloves to help weed garden beds, cut back fading perennials, plant new perennials and spring bulbs, and spread mulch. We will be working alongside Girl Scout troops who not only are working toward a service badge, but will also have delicious baked goods for sale. The proceeds will be donated to Hurricane victims. Rain date is October 7.
