The Essential Partnership Between CCPS and the Georgia State Legislature
Each year, I have the privilege of taking the CCPS Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council to Atlanta for an unforgettable experience in civic engagement. On February 26th, we will once again travel to the Gold Dome, where our students will witness the legislative process firsthand, meet with state lawmakers, and deepen their understanding of how government shapes public education. This trip is not just a visit—it is a real-world civics lesson, allowing students to see how decisions made at the state level impact their schools, teachers, and future opportunities.
Public education in Georgia and Catoosa County thrive through a strong partnership between local school districts and state lawmakers. In Catoosa County, this collaboration ensures that our students, teachers, and families receive the resources and support they need to succeed. During our visit, students will sit in the chambers of the Georgia House and Senate, observe legislative discussions, and engage with our local representatives—Rep. M. Horner, Rep. S. Tarvin, and Sen. C. Moore—each of whom play a crucial role in shaping Catoosa County's public schools.
As superintendent, one of my responsibilities is to advocate for our students and educators by working closely with state lawmakers and the Board of Education on issues such as school funding, teacher pay, academic programs, student resources, and school safety. Our annual visit underscores the importance of these partnerships and provides students with an up-close look at how collaboration between local school leaders and the state government drives progress in education.
Beyond this trip, it’s important to remember that education is not just an expense, it is an investment in our own community and our future. Most of our graduates remain, live, and work in Catoosa County, contributing to its growth and success. They become our neighbors and raise their families right here! We are educating the future citizens of our county, and with 90% of our community having attended a public school, this shared experience unites us all. Each generation provides a quality education for the next, ensuring a strong foundation for the future. Education is truly a place to pay it forward.
Thank you for your continued support of our local schools and students. By working together, we can ensure that every student in Catoosa County receives the education they need to reach their full potential and make meaningful contributions to our community.

Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) Information
5 CCPS Schools Qualify for Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2024-2025 School Year.
What is the CEP Program?
CEP is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and allows qualifying schools to provide meals to all enrolled students at no charge. Students at Cloud Springs, LMS, LFO, West Side, and Tiger Creek will receive school meals for the 24-25 school year at no cost and without needing to complete the free/reduced meal applications.
Do all schools qualify for the CEP Program?
Not all schools within CCPS qualify for CEP. This is due to the number of students qualifying for free/reduced meals in each school. CCPS is closely monitoring all numbers and will add schools as they qualify.
Can students not in the CEP Program still recieve free/reduced meals?
Students at all other CCPS schools may still receive free/reduced-priced meals, if they qualify, by using the meal application found online by clicking here.
For additional information, please visit the Child Nutrition page on the CCPS site by clicking here.
Please call the Child Nutrition office if you need any assistance, 706-965-2414.
