Principal's Corner
Dear Meridian Families,
Last week was a busy week here at Meridian Elementary School! Thank you to everyone who came out for parent teacher conferences! We know how busy everyone is and parents with young children are the busiest of the busy. Still, it shows incredible dedication on your part and sends a powerful message to your kiddos, so kudos!
Thank you as well to everyone who came out to support our Book Fair and our Muffins with Mom. We had enormous attendance for both and it was great having everyone out.
Just a quick safety update: for those of you who use the east parking lot (off of Mountain Road), please "go with the flow" and do not go against the flow. Staff and families generally are paying attention to traffic going with the flow and it puts folks in unsafe situations to drive otherwise.
A quick reminder that this Friday is a half day for the end of the quarter. We have two weeks for everyone to get refreshed and recharged.
When we come back, please remember that bus riders will have to show ID to board the bus after fall break. Kiddos can be forgetful (shocking but true) so please help remind yours if they ride the bus! see below for more details!
Go Mustangs!
Sincerely,
Christopher Stroud
Principal
Lost and Found
There are many items in the lost and found in the Main Hallway. Please have your students check for their belongings. Any unclaimed items will be donated over the break!
Student ID required to ride the Bus
Dear Meridian Elementary Parents and Families,
Thank you for all of your efforts to ensure your child wears their student ID badge. We appreciate your support with this important safety and security initiative.
As we communicated at the beginning of this school year all of our students who ride a bus must have their Student ID Badges to ride the bus to and from school every day.
To support our students in remembering this at the beginning of this school year we have been actively reminding our students and families. Once students return from Fall Break, if a student does not have their Student ID Badge when getting on the bus to return home from campus at the end of the day they will not be able to ride the bus. They will instead need to be picked up from the school office by an approved parent or guardian.
Thank you in advance for your support of our efforts. Please continue to work with your students to ensure they bring their ID badge with them to school every day.
Here Comes the Bus App
We are also excited to remind you of ‘Here Comes the Bus’, a service for our families whose students ride the school bus.
With ‘Here Comes the Bus’ parents can:
View the real-time location of their student’s school bus
Ensure their student gets to the bus stop at the right time, every time
Know when and where their child boards or exits the bus - Students ID badges are scanned when they board and exit the school bus.
New ‘Cancel a Ride’ Feature on Here Comes the Bus
Please check out the new Skip Ride feature on the Here Comes the Bus App that allows parents to cancel a bus rIde with the click of a button.
Parents can easily download the ‘Here Comes the Bus’ app. Once downloaded select whether you would like email, push notifications or both, regarding your student’s school bus. You can also select what you would like to be notified of.
Thank you in advance for your support of these important safety initiatives in our schools.
Election November 5 - GPS Budget Override Continuation Information
Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board approved that in November 2024, voters living within Gilbert Public School boundaries will decide on a proposed 15% budget override continuation. This would be a continuation of the existing budget override approved by voters in November 2019 and in place since the 2020/21 school year. The existing override generates approximately $36 million annually to:
- ensure competitive salaries to recruit and retain high-quality teachers and staff in classrooms,
- maintain programmatic choices for students creating future ready graduates,
- maintain campus safety and security personnel and,
- maintain class sizes with allocation to class size reduction.

Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures
Always use crosswalks for student safety!
Please obey the speed limit and take notice of the “No Stopping, Standing and Parking” signs on the streets surrounding the school.
There is No Parking on Mesquite Street or Mountain Road.
There is no parking or idling in the bike lanes; the police will continue to ticket for this.
Also, be aware that there is to be NO loading or unloading on these streets.
No U-Turns in student drop-off/pick-up areas!
Both the East Loop and Car Loop are ONE WAY only.
When parking in the neighborhoods, please follow all posted signs and be mindful of not blocking driveways or fire hydrants.
Choose safety over convenience!
Thank you for keeping our children safe!
The playground opens for student drop off at 7:45 am
No students should be on campus before this time.
The front office is not to be used as a pick-up or drop off location!
Late Instrument Drop-off Procedure
With our school growth we have a high volume of parents dropping off forgotten items. We are no longer able to be delivering instruments throughout the day. However, we will have a table for instrument drop offs during the day. If a child has forgotten their instrument, teachers can have them check the table up front before heading to specials. Hoping this helps to cut down on the interruptions, the band and strings teachers are also welcome to send them up as well if they didn't remember to check.

From The Nurse
Couple reminders from the nurses office:
First, parents if your student is getting ready to turn 12, be sure to get your student their Tdap and Meningococcal vaccination done. These vaccines are due at the time your student turns 12 but can be given anytime at the age of 11.
Second, please consider donating your gently used clothing to the health office. We are in need of sizes 6-8 shorts or pants as well as larger shirts sizes 12-14.
