Dear Families,
It has been an exciting week in the Norfolk Public Schools, as we have been able to celebrate some special events with our students and families that we have missed over the past two years. This morning our sixth grade students boarded buses to travel to Camp Bournedale for three days of outdoor learning and team building experiences. Students were all smiles as they departed the Freeman-Kennedy for this wonderful learning adventure. It is a great way to culminate their educational journey here in Norfolk and to build new friendships and relationships as they prepare to head off to King Philip or other new educational settings!
Last Friday the Freeman-Kennedy Fifth/Sixth Grade Promotion Committee hosted a wonderful outdoor movie and game night, with a live DJ. We had over 200 students attend and a great time was had by all. Students at the H. Olive Day school celebrated Earth Day with a traditional outdoor school wide assembly behind the school near the entrance to the Kunde Forest. First grade students at the H. Olive Day enjoyed a visit and presentation from the Ecotarium and Kindergarten students had a special program with the Discovery Museum. We were also able to take an outdoor photo of our full second grade class to celebrate the upcoming H.Olive Day graduates!
We are thrilled that our students have been able to enjoy these special events with their teachers and classmates and look forward to a great end of the school year!
Sincerely,
Ingrid Allardi
NPS School Lunch Update 2022-2023
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We want to update you regarding the free school meals that Norfolk Public Schools have been able to serve to your children since the beginning of COVID in March 2020. When COVID started, the federal government created a national policy that allowed schools in the entire country to provide free meals to all students. As of now, it is likely that this national policy will end on June 30th. We hope this is not the case, but we want to be prepared and want to give all families time to prepare for this change.
What this means for Norfolk families is that next school year we may return to the traditional system, where students receive free, reduced-price, or full-price meals based upon income status. In order to ensure we can provide free or reduced-price meals to as many families as possible, we will need families to complete the household Application for Free and Reduced Price Meals in July 2022 for next school year. Please note that this does not affect the remainder of the current school year. We will continue to offer free breakfast and lunch to ALL students until this school year ends Friday June 17th.
The most important thing that you can do to prepare for the start of school is to complete the 22-23 MA Application for Free and Reduced Price Meals, which will be available in July 2022 https://www.norfolk.k12.ma.us/ . We strongly encourage ALL families who may qualify to submit this form as it is very important to the district’s records, and allows us to also waive fees, etc. for those who qualify. We will be in touch again in July with the Application form.
In addition, please consider applying for SNAP, the federal nutrition program that provides eligible residents with monthly financial assistance to purchase groceries. While the 22-23 MA Application for Free and Reduced Price Meals is not available to complete until July, the application for SNAP is available now. More SNAP information can be found at gettingsnap.org.
The food and nutrition department at Norfolk Public Schools thanks you for your patience during this anticipated change and we understand the burden that this may place on many families. As always, we are grateful for the opportunity to provide nourishing and healthy meals to all Norfolk students so please reach out to us with any questions or concerns.
Best,
Shelly Bernardini
School Nutrition Director
Teacher Appreciation Luncheon
As you may know, the PTO organizes a teacher appreciation luncheon every spring on the half day that falls in May. This year the luncheon will be held on Friday, May 27th and we are asking for assistance in two ways:
1. Cash donations that will be put towards catering - please Venmo to @Lynn-Kealty or send in cash donations to school in an envelope with Lynn Kealty's name. No amount is too small, and any donation is appreciated!
2. Donate goods to be dropped off at school the day before or day of the luncheon. A sign up for each school is below. We are also looking for a few people to decorate at HOD.
