Weekly Memo
Some thoughts for the starting school year
Hi Everyone,
We have had another great week here at the high school. This last official week of the summer season has been beautiful and we are thankful for all of the sunshine. A special thank you to all of our students for working through the i-Ready diagnostic. If any student still needs to finish, we will coordinate a plan with them. We are really looking forward to diving into the data and to determining the best supports for each student.
As you have all now read the press release shared earlier today, we are proud of our very own Mr. Bennett for taking his leadership talents to Village Elementary School as their interim principal. We know that change can sometimes feel daunting but Ms. Mockeridge and I are looking forward to continuing working with all of you for the remainder of the school year.
We have one week until Spirit Week (9/30-10/5) so be on the lookout for dress up day information from our student council. Additionally, our state testing will begin for all of our Grade 10 students next month. Students will be taking the math and reading assessments in their math and English classes. Please review this letter from the assistant superintendent regarding the Maine Through Year Assessment.
Enjoy the rest of your week and have a safe weekend. As always, if you need anything or have any questions please reach out to Mike, Liza, or me.
Thanks,
Amanda
Congratulations to our Food Services Department!
York Public Schools received a Healthy Meals Incentives Recognition Award for improving the nutritional quality of their school meals. Awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) in collaboration with Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK), York received the Lunch Trailblazer Award for work in implementing lower sodium levels by utilizing local ingredients for flavor, sauces, and more. York School Department has partnered with many farms to provide students Maine beef, chicken, fish, fruits and vegetables. “One of America’s best opportunities to improve child health is by supporting schools in providing tasty and nutritious meals,” said Cindy Long, administrator of USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service. “This Recognition Award highlights the remarkable achievements York has made in offering nutritious meals that students enjoy, and we look forward to them sharing their best practices to help other schools follow in their footsteps.” Long added that each school day, USDA school meal programs reach around 30 million children from all communities and backgrounds across the country.
Lunch Trailblazer Award winners improved the nutrition quality of school lunches by meeting weekly sodium guidelines and implementing student engagement.

York High School is proud to announce our annual Veterans Day event, a tradition that brings our staff and students together to show appreciation and gratitude to the brave men and women who have served our country. On the morning of Friday, November 8th, we will be hosting a school-wide assembly followed by a special breakfast for the veterans who join us.
To make this event even more meaningful, we will be creating a slideshow featuring photos of the veterans in our lives. We kindly request your assistance in making this a success by sending pictures of your veterans to gcaraballo@yorkschools.org. With your help, we can create a memorable tribute to the heroes who have dedicated their lives to serving our nation.
Thank you in advance for your support and participation in honoring our veterans the way they truly deserve.
