A Healthy Halloween
Halloween can be a fun time of year with lots of extra candy and treats. Why not think of some ways to keep it fun but a bit more healthy.
1. Before heading out for tick or treating, filly up first. Have a healthy dinner so the kiddos are not trying to dive right into the candy.
2. Keep the size of the collection bag small and encourage 1 piece per house.
3. Keep moving. Walking house to house will burn more calories.
4. Check expiration dates before consuming.
5. Have a plan and use this opportunity to talk to your children about portion size and healthier options.
You don't ALWAYS have to be healthy. A small treat here and there is okay but extra sugar through foods, candy, and drinks add up leading to tooth decay, weight gain and poor habits.

Mental Health Corner
New Mental Health Resources from FCPS!
FCPS started a mental health task force last year to help address the needs of our students, staff and families. We know that caring for our mental health is as important as taking care of our physical health.
If you feel that you or a loved one would benefit from mental health services, check out our page of local resources and partners.

As you may be aware your child/children have been getting screenings including hearing and vision at school. You will receive the screening forms in backpacks . If you have any questions or concerns about your child's vision or hearing, please reach out. The importance of early hearing and vision screenings can impact a child's life especially during the developmental stages. Not all doctors check a child's hearing and vision at the doctor's office so it's important to ask your pediatrician if they are planning on doing vision and hearing exams at child well checkups if they have not done so already.
The number of children with hearing loss doubles during early childhood--from approximately 3 in 1000 at birth to 6 in 1000 by school age
From 1 month to 4 years of age, infants and toddlers should have their ocular health assessed at each routine well-child visit.
