Principal's Message
Dear Nord Families,
Fall is officially here! At Walter G. Nord School our students and staff have settled into routines and are making the most of each day together!
We have two nights of Parent-Teacher conferences this fall. They are Wednesday, October 9th from 3:35 - 8:35 pm and Monday, November 4th from 3:35 - 7:35 pm. Please contact your child's homeroom teacher if you would like to sign up for a conference. All special teachers will be available for conferences also. Please see the flyer below for details on how to schedule a conference for Art, Band/Orchestra, Music, PE, Spanish, and/or Wellness.
There is no school on Friday, October 11th for NEOEA Day. I hope all our Nord families are able to enjoy the long weekend!
As always, please do not hesitate to contact your child's teachers or me with any questions, comments, or concerns. My direct phone number is 440-988-1637 and my email is ashley_harigan@amherstk12.org.
Take Care,
Mrs. Harigan

September Comet Impact Awards
Comet Impact Family Survey
Walter G. Nord School's Comet Impact Committee would like to hear how families feel about our school. Please click here to complete the Comet Impact Family School Climate Survey. This survey includes questions about your child’s learning, communication, connections, school-wide expectations, and discipline system.
The survey is completely anonymous and brief; it contains 20 questions and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. The survey will be open until Friday, October 25, 2024. As you respond to each item, think about your own personal experiences as a parent, caregiver, or guardian at Walter G. Nord School.
Please contact Mrs. McArthur, Dean of Students, if you have any questions. The survey results will be used to inform and develop appropriate strategies, procedures, and/or programs to enhance our school climate. Thank you for your time and participation!

School Fees
All school fees have been posted in ParentPortal. Fee notices were also sent home this week. Please email or call Mrs. Dotson, Financial Secretary, at 440-988-4441 if you would like to set up a payment plan or if you have any questions.
Increasing Vocabulary and Comprehension
Did you know increasing how much you talk at home can positively affect your child's reading and writing? It's true! The more we engage in conversation with our children, the greater their vocabulary will be and vocabulary accounts for an estimated 80% of reading comprehension!
Check out the links below for great back to school conversation starters and for more information on the impact of conversational turns. For more details on increasing talk at home, contact literacy coach, Breanna Carden, at breanna_carden@amherstk12.org.
