Message from the Superintendent
October 2, 2020
Dear OUSD Community,
This week we were happy to start welcoming back those students choosing to return to on-campus learning as part of Phase 2 of our Safety & Health-Driven School Reopening Plan. Overall, the transition has been smooth and we thank our families, staff, and students for their patience and support. It was exciting to see the positive news coverage shared by the media as well.
Each facility is different, and site-specific logistics have been planned to maximize the health and safety of our students and staff. If you have questions about a specific school’s policies and procedures, please check the school’s website or contact your principal.
For those who have not yet started on-campus learning, the remaining return dates are as follows:
Middle School Return to Campus Dates
- Monday, October 5: Grade 8 Cohort A and Grade 6 Cohort A
- Tuesday, October 6: Grade 7 Cohort A
High School Student Return to Campus Dates
- Thursday, October 1: Parkside Home School (7-12), Special Education supports (regionalized programs), any identified cohort of students

This year, the Orange Unified Council of PTAs (formerly Orange Community Council of PTAs) is offering a virtual Reflections Arts Program option and are excited to see submissions in the areas of Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts. This year’s theme is I Matter Because... For more information about how to participate, please visit https://orangeunifiedcouncilpta.org/programs/reflections/
As you may be aware, last year we had the artwork of four OUSD students advance to State PTA, and two that advanced to National PTA. In fact, Aubrey Hutt from Anaheim Hills Elementary was recognized as an Award of Excellence honoree in Dance Choreography by National PTA. The Reflections Arts Program is one of the many programs that PTA brings to our students and has been around for 51 years.
Thank you for your partnership as we continue to adapt to the reality of schools today.
Warmest Regards,
Gunn Marie Hansen, Ph.D.
