Fall 2024
In October we celebrate:
- Filipino American History Month
- National Bullying Prevention Month
- Breast Cancer Awareness Month
There's always a reason to celebrate! Reading is a celebration, don't miss out on our new novels - Fall All the Way . . . into Reading!
Filipino American History Month (FAHM) commemorates the first Filipinos to arrive in the continental United States at what is now Morro Bay, California on October 18, 1587.
In 1992, the Filipino American National Historical Society introduced FAHM, and in 2009 U.S. Congress officially recognized October as FAHM in the U.S.

Bullying, Cyberbullying all the same! The difference?
- Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior, use of force, hurtful teasing, coercion or threat among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance.
- Cyberbullying is bullying in a digital space, such as on mobile phones, computers, tablets, etc., in arenas such as text messaging, social media, forums, online gaming, and more.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
There are many organizations working together to raise funds for breast cancer awareness and research. The American Cancer Society says there has been a 42% breast cancer death rates from 1989 to the present, among women. The progress is attributed to improvements in early detection and treatments.
Our students in the CTE MED PATH/HEALTH have been working on this topic for the last few days. Look out for their posters promoting awareness and self checks.
I am also participating on the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk this coming weekend. All the funds collected stay in San Diego, so if you'd like to join me click on the link for more information on how to participate.

Please remember to be kind
If you or one of your friend are feeling anxious, excessively sad or low, or struggling to carry out your daily activities, then it's time to check in with someone you trust to help you understand or identify your thoughts and emotions. You do not have to go through it alone!
Look out for the BC2M (Bring Change to Mind) club, coming soon!
