Roy Elementary

Each year halfway through the year we check on the progress of students to ensure their learning is progressing as it should. For the second year in a row we have students in every grade level growing at high rates. So much so that the percentage of students on grade level rank in the top 5 among all 18 elementary schools in Bethel. Of particular note our kindergarten students are ranked first in ELA and our fourth graders are ranked second in ELA among all 18 elementaries. That's a huge celebration for our Mustang Family!

This celebration is due to the hard work of many.

At the end of the month, we will be holding conferences with each of our students. School will dismiss at 11:30 am each day. Teachers will be sending notices home the week of March 18th to confirm your scheduled conference. Be sure to detach the confirmation slip so the teacher knows you are able to attend the conference as scheduled.

Senate Bill 5395, passed by the State Legislature in 2020, requires that all schools provide comprehensive health education. Comprehensive health education is defined in the bill as "instruction about human development and reproduction that takes place over time and is age-appropriate and inclusive of all students."

Instruction in each grade level will take place later this month.

• Kinder - 3rd Grade: The focus will be on social-emotional learning (SEL). SEL provides skills to do things like cope with feelings, set goals, and get along with others. These lessons will help students recognize, report, and refuse unsafe situations.
• 4th - 5th Grade: The focus will be on helping students understand and respect personal boundaries, develop healthy friendships, and gain a basic understanding of human growth and development.

If your student will miss school for any reason please feel free to let us know through Parent VUE or by calling the office. If we don't receive information about why your student is absent before teachers take attendance each morning you will receive a phone call from our office. We don't want any student to have unexcused absences. Our goal is 100% attendance every day all day.

Early reading skills can affect children's academic success. Reading just 20 minutes a day allows them to practice words and improves their writing skills. As your student reads for 20 minutes each night you might find that there aren't enough books to last until their next library visit. There are a number of online storybook resources that could help in a pinch. Thank you for supporting our efforts to have every child a reader!

Our school hours for the 2023-24 school year are 9:05am until 3:35 pm.

We know that from time to time changes to how your student gets home can come. If you need to make a one-day change to your student’s dismissal plan, you will need to either send a written note to school or call the school office by 2:00 P.M. When we receive phone calls after 2:00 P.M., we will make every effort to inform your child of the change; however, due to many factors, we cannot guarantee that they will receive the message. If we do not receive this notification, your student may be delayed in reaching you as we work to notify all involved.
