The MMES Buzz
News from Manchester Memorial Elementary School!
April 12, 2024
Principal's Note
Dear MMES Families,
This week, a shout out goes to Ms. Silag for coordinating our very first Memorial-Essex Elementary Poetry Cafe Night! This is an event that started at Memorial some years ago, and it was great to see it expanded to include our friends from Essex Elementary School! There was a great turn out and so many students, parents, and staff members shared their favorite poems with the audience. Thank you to Ms. Garofalo (MC), Ms. Dooley (Piano), Mrs. LeStage (Reader), and Mr. Lunney (Reader) for helping us promote a love of poetry with our students!
Have a wonderful vacation week!
Best,
John
Poetry Cafe at Essex Elementary
The first MERSD Elementary Poetry Cafe Night held last night at the EES Cafe was a hit! Over 35 students, staff and parents shared poems in an Open Mic format in the EES Cafe which was decorated to create a cool vibe by dynamic duo, EES parent Hayes Demeule and MMES parent Sarah Chamberlain. Many MMES and EES students shared multiple poems solo and with friends. MMES staff including Mr. Willis (and special guest, incoming EES Principal, Mrs. Kim Provost), Mrs. LeStage, Mr. Lunney, and Ms. Silag shared poems along with EES teachers Mrs. Field and Mrs. Demetri. The event was emceed by our talented Ms. Garafalo, and musical accompaniment was provided by the also super-talented Ms. Dooley who shared a poem as well! MMES parent Amy Lage and 5th grader Harley and the amazing DesRosiers family provided great support along with Mr. Chris Dwyer who provided Tech support. Grateful for the MERSD Elementary community working together! Til next year...
Happy Poetry Month!
Best,
Samantha

Health Room Updates
I wish everyone an extremely healthy, happy, and restful April break!!
5th Grade parents/caregivers, if your child has had their annual physical and you would like me to enter that information into the computer for transfer to middle school- please send to me
Physicals:
Current physical and immunization records are due for grades 1 and 4. Please do not make a new appointment. Send me the most current and then send me a copy of the new physical when it is completed.
Extra Clothing: ALL GRADE LEVELS
Occasionally a spilled drink, a fall in a puddle or even a ride down a wet slide occurs, if each child could have a change of clothing (head to toe) that would be great.
Just a few reminders:
1. If your child is going to be absent or arriving late, please call either 526-1909 or 526-1908 to let us know.
2. If your child has a temperature of 100. F or over, they need to be temperature free for 24 hours (without relying on Tylenol or Motrin) before re-entering the school.
3. If your child is experiencing diarrhea or vomiting, we recommend that they are symptom free for 24 hours and can tolerate solid food before they return
4. If your child has a contagious illness such as conjunctivitis or strep throat, it is the school policy that they are on medicine for 24 hours before re-entering the building.
5. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT ALL CLASSROOMS ARE PEANUT/NUT FREE
Thank you for your co-operation and continuing support.
