Principal Message
I hope to see many of you in person or online Saturday morning at 10:00 in the library for the PTO general meeting.
Starting the day as a class community is very important. Thank you for ensuring your child arrives at school between 7:50 and 7:55 a.m. Homeroom teachers pick their classes up at 7:57 am. Students should be walking into the building with their class, ready to start the day together. We want to reduce student tardiness.

Updated Student and Family Handbook - As Seen in the District's Welcome Back Email
District 97 has updated the Student-Family Handbook for 2024-25. It contains important information regarding school policies, procedures, guidelines, student rights and responsibilities, and notifications required by state and federal law.
The purpose of this handbook is to outline for students, families and staff the expectations for building an educational community where everyone feels safe, included and able to learn. Having shared expectations, procedures and policies helps us respect all members of the school community in which we learn and work every day. Please take the time to read through the handbook and review it with your child.
D97 Board Policy Update: Secure Gun Storage
District 97 is committed to fostering a learning environment in which its students and all community members are emotionally and physically safe. As part of this commitment, the District recently adopted Board Policy 4:174 - Secure Gun Storage, underscoring the importance of safe firearm storage in reducing the risk of gun violence. We are collaborating closely with the Village of Oak Park and Oak Park and River Forest High School District 200 to minimize these risks within our schools and community.
Secure storage is a simple action a gun owner can take to reduce access to guns among young people, keeping children and families in our community safe. Best practices for secure storage include storing guns unloaded, locked, and separate from ammunition. Click here to visit the village's webpage about safe firearm storage, which includes information about obtaining free gun locks, conversation starters for parents, and other resources for promoting community safety. Information will also be shared periodically with staff and families throughout the school year, and is available on the Safety Resources page of our website.
In Case You Missed It
In the Event of Inclement Weather in the Morning
If it is raining or in winter on mornings not above 15 degrees including windchill, the students come into the building for morning line up. Students may enter through their regular entrance or any other regularly used entrance. They will be directed to the following places:
Auditorium - Kindergarten, Second and Fourth
Commons - First, Third and Fifth
Background Checks
Our Beye staff does a wonderful job at planning field trips that enrich our curriculum and we enjoy having family members chaperone. In order to supervise students, the chaperone must complete a background check through the district. Please click on this link to make an appointment. The background check lasts for 3 years. It is helpful to do these earlier in the year as time slots fill up.
