Newsletter - Term 2 Week 5
Friday 3 June 2022
From the Principal
New website
You'll see that we have a new newsletter and a new website. More importantly however is that we have a new app that will support our communication with you. To download the app click here. We still have a bit of work to do in the background but you should immediately be able to use the app to submit absences, read the daily notices, view newsletters and get important updates on your phone.
Curriculum Survey
Thank you to those of you who took the time to communicate your thoughts in the survey. I received roughly 40 surveys and in general the feedback from parents was that our curriculum caters well to most students and we are providing our students with a good number of opportunities to transition to work or further education. The areas for improvement were mostly around ensuring that all of our students feel valued and safe at school, that we better use the community (people, place and expertise) to support the learning that happens here, and that we provide broader curriculum pathways for our students.
Covid reminder
Just a reminder that while we have a small number of cases at school, we are still seeing cases so there is still a risk of transmission in the community. Whilst masks are not compulsory for students under the Orange setting, I would like to remind everyone that they are still an extremely effective way to protect yourself. Several of our students continue to wear masks and it's great to see that students are being supportive of this. If you have any concerns about this, please let me know.

Geography class from the top of a mountain
As part of their Year 12 Geography Natural Landscapes topic, the class spent three nights up at Aoraki Mt Cook staying at Unwin Lodge. Whilst the students were there, they; undertook vegetation analysis fieldwork below Mt Sebastopol, watched an avalanche come down off Mt Sefton, and discussed the formation and changes that have occurred to the glaciers in the National Park, including the Mueller, Hooker and Tasman Glaciers. Fortunately, the weather was clear for the duration.
A highlight of the trip was a helicopter flight up onto the Liebig Ridge. Here, the group played in the snow for about 20 minutes, disappearing into the soft dry powder as they clambered around. We then flew down the various nooks and crannies along the eastern side of the Tasman Valley, looking for a bull tahr before heading back to the airport.
