Honor Roll and 4.0 Certificates
We will be distributing first quarter honor roll and 4.0 certificates on Wednesday, November 11, from 4:00-6:00pm. We ask that you follow social distance guidelines when picking up your student’s certificate(s). We will be at the area of Chugiak High School where busses drop off and pick up students. Our counselors and I will be in the corridor which leads to the cafeteria area of the high school.
Notifications will be sent out via email to all our recipients later on this week. It is always enjoyable for me to acknowledge the high academic achievement of so many of our young scholars by handing out these certificates. Students, we will also have Gruening “swag” to hand out with your certificates, so I hope you are able to stop by a week from Wednesday.

iReady Lessons
Students, you should now be spending time each week on the iReady lessons for both reading and math. Ideally, we would like you to spend thirty to forty-five minutes on each curricular area. These are skill-building lessons designed to enhance your overall learning. Our language arts department chair, Ms. Foss, and I attended a training last week where we received an overview of the iReady program.
I particularly like this summary of the iReady Learning Pathways: “Our students have instructional interruptions which resulted in unfinished learning. To address this issue, instructional pathways are intentionally designed to address educational learning gaps in a personalized fashion. [iReady lessons] allow students to experience a vibrant, interactive and adaptive digital platform. iReady provides flexibility for students to progress at their own pace, and to demonstrate growth over time.”
As I often do, I use sports analogies. How do you become a better basketball player? You go into the gym regularly to work on fundamental skill sets: shooting technique, free throws, dribbling, conditioning, etc. How do you become a better golfer? Not only do you play rounds of golf, but you go to the driving range and hit bags and bags of golf balls. You work on your chipping game, putting, etc. Same with iReady. Students, you are working on fundamental skills that will help you in your learning.
