Weekly Memo
Some thoughts for the starting school year
Hi Everyone,
Tomorrow is our last day with Mr. Bennett at York High School. We are sad to see him go, but are looking forward to hearing about his adventures down at Village Elementary School. If you see him tomorrow please give him a wave, thank him for his time, and wish him well. Good luck, Mr. Bennett, and thank you for all that you have done for us.
Next Monday kicks off our fall Spirit Week and it is going to be fun-filled. We will have our annual pep rally next Friday afternoon where we will play games and recognize all of our fall student-athletes. Get excited to dress up and show your school spirit ... just remember it is a CLASS BATTLE, so the winner of the week is based on all of the participation. Who will win?!
The Class of 2026 will also be hosting the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, October 5. If you are planning to bring a non-YHS student as a guest, the guest forms must be submitted to the Main Office by Wednesday, October 2.
Students in Political and Legal Studies will be conducting voter registration in the YHS Commons during all three lunch blocks on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (10/1-10/3). Registrations will be completed online through the State of Maine Online Voter Registration Service. The deadline for online registrations is Oct. 15, 2024.
The State of Maine allows citizens 18 or older to register and vote in the General Election on Nov. 5. Those 17 years of age can register and vote in a Primary Election if they will be 18 by the date of the General Election.
In order to complete the online registration process, students will be required to verify their identity and residency. The following forms of ID are preferred to verify identity:
- A Maine issued driver's license (DL) or State ID number
- Legal name as it appears on a Maine DL or State ID card
** If a student does not have a Maine driver's license or Maine State ID, they must provide:
- The last 4 digits of their Social Security Number
- An image of their handwritten signature (not a signature created with a computer font).
Parents may want to remind students of the last 4 digits of their SSN, if they want to pre-register or register. PALS students will be trained to assist students with the registration process, but it is necessary to have the proper information/documentation to complete the process. A variety of informational resources provided by the nonpartisan League of Women Voters will also be available to students. These resources are related to the voting process and are not specific to candidates or issues in the General Election.
Enjoy the rest of your week and have a safe weekend. As always, if you need anything or have any questions please reach out to Liza or me.
Thanks,
Amanda

York High School is proud to announce our annual Veterans Day event, a tradition that brings our staff and students together to show appreciation and gratitude to the brave men and women who have served our country. On the morning of Friday, November 8th, we will be hosting a school-wide assembly followed by a special breakfast for the veterans who join us.
To make this event even more meaningful, we will be creating a slideshow featuring photos of the veterans in our lives. We kindly request your assistance in making this a success by sending pictures of your veterans to gcaraballo@yorkschools.org. With your help, we can create a memorable tribute to the heroes who have dedicated their lives to serving our nation.
Thank you in advance for your support and participation in honoring our veterans the way they truly deserve.
