NSSEO Strategic Plan Update
A quick update on where NSSEO is with its Strategic Planning Process. A timeline of the process has been provided, and later this month, NSSEO will receive the Environmental Scan from its consultants, Hazzard Young & Attea.
As a reminder, the Environmental Scan is the report developed from all the data gathered from interviews, focus groups, an online survey, and other internal data sources. It provides the perspective of the "State of NSSEO," which will serve as a starting point for the writing of the plan in December. Each of the eight member districts will be represented and have a hand in authoring the plan, along with various administrators and staff from NSSEO.
The Environmental Scan presentation occurred at the NSSEO Governing Board Meeting on November 6th. Board members are welcome to view the presentation at the link here. Member districts sent three representatives to the meetings, selected by our superintendent, to write the NSSEO Strategic Plan. These meetings will take place on December 3 and December 10 from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
Shining Star - Valeria
We are honored to introduce Valerie as NSSEO’s Shining Star during the Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Awareness Month. Val is an 8th grader at Miner School and uses an iPad with LAMP as her primary communication system. Val always starts every school day with a smile. The skillful navigation of her AAC device allows her to efficiently and effectively share her thoughts with others. She has excellent ownership of her device and independently carries it everywhere across her school day. Val will seek out preferred adults and utilize her AAC device to advocate for what she wants or needs. In small group sessions, Val is an active participant and will locate the core vocabulary word targeted on her AAC device without assistance or prompting. She frequently participates in class by volunteering to go up to the smart board during group meetings and engaging in the presented activities. In addition, Val uses the keyboard on her device during independent writing activities to express what she wants to write about or comment on the letter of the day. Learning to use her AAC device has allowed Val to understand the meaning and power of her words.
Congratulations Val, we are all so proud of you!

CIP Goal 3 Update - Humanex Presentation: Dr. Brad Carter and Mr. Matt Munson
Dr. Brad Carter welcomed Matt Munson, Regional Client Partner Development Coach at Humanex, to discuss the organization's collaborative efforts with NSSEO. Humanex, a leading provider of talent, culture, and team development solutions, has a long history of partnering with educational institutions worldwide.
One key area of collaboration between NSSEO and Humanex involves the implementation of the Insightex survey. This comprehensive assessment tool measures 15 dimensions of organizational climate and culture, providing valuable insights into employee satisfaction and engagement. By analyzing survey results, NSSEO can identify areas for improvement and set targeted goals for each department and school group.
Mr. Munson shared NSSEO's progress in utilizing Insightex and emphasized the importance of the next steps: setting clear and actionable goals based on the survey findings. Through this partnership, NSSEO aims to create a more positive and productive work environment for its employees.
Facility Updates
Used Eyeglass Collections
We at NSSEO are partnering with the Lions Club of Illinois to collect used eyeglasses. These recycled eyeglasses are given to people in need, with the help of various medical missionaries, in Central and South America and around the world. When the eyeglasses arrive in these countries, doctors and technicians conduct eye exams and provide a free pair of prescription eyeglasses that are as close as possible to that person’s sight needs.
We are asking for your help to fill our collection boxes at each of our NSSEO schools. Please send in any used eyeglasses (sunglasses, prescription glasses, readers, etc.) with your student, and they will be placed in the collection box at their school. You can collect from other family members as well and send in as many as you want. We will be collecting until November 15th, 2024. If you have any questions, please contact Joy Borkowski at jborkowski@nsseo.org or (847) 463-8451
