We want to assure you that 4-Hers will have the opportunity to enter exhibits into the county fair this year! The 4-H portion of the fair is not cancelled. We are closely following the directed health measures from the Governor’s office, and in the next week or so we will share with you the plan we have developed for a safe and effective fair. There are many items to be aware of when registering youth for an animal class. For example: What’s an ID sheet? When are the deadlines for my child’s breed? What does YQCA mean and where can I find it? Due to the challenges of COVID-19 for families and educators, the extension of restricted in person 4-H events through June 15, and the closures of offices and schools, 4-H and FFA, in consultation with the Nebraska State Fair Livestock Committee, have decided to extend the state fair livestock nomination deadline from June 15 to July 1. Exhibitors will be required to submit their DNA envelopes to their county office or FFA Advisor and have completed their online nomination through https://showstockmgr.com/ along with submitting payment online by 11:59 PM CST on July 1.

Due to concerns regarding the spread of COVID-19, Nebraska 4-H has decided to cancel the in-person State 4-H Horse Show. Instead, a modified virtual show will be hosted allowing youth to compete from home. Participants will record and submit videos of their show performance using the rules and specifications. Beginning June 15, 4-H Clubs across Nebraska can start meeting, but new club safety measures need to be in place. The health and safety of all 4-H members, parents, guests, and staff is the top priority of Nebraska 4-H. Additional guidelines:

CERTIFICATES DUE JUNE 15TH **EXTENDED TO JULY 1ST

Youth will need to complete the online training to obtain their YQCA certificate. The Cass County 4-H Council voted to purchase web-based training codes so our 4-H members can take this training at NO COST!!! Thank you 4-H Council!

The Nebraska 4-H Online Insect Identification Contest provides an opportunity for participants to put their entomological knowledge to the test. The contest consists of insect identification and multiple-choice questions. Participants will gain knowledge about insects and entomology through this competition. This contest can serve as practice for county contests and the State Fair 4-H Insect Identification Contests. The contest is open to all youth, as well as adults. Youth do not need to be enrolled 4-H members to participate. The contest will be available from Friday, June 5 through Friday, June 19, 2020. https://4h.unl.edu/online-insect-id-contest

A great opportunity for your students to continue their learning in Livestock Evaluation as well as a great preparation for the State Contest and/or District Contests is now available!

We are hosting a Virtual Judging Camp on June 16th-18th from 10 am-12 pm each day with focuses on a different species each day. There is a $50 registration fee, but multiple can view for this fee. This will be good for the beginners as well as the advanced evaluators. You are welcome to join as well! The following link is available for registration( a tentative agenda is included):

Nebraska 4-H Evaluate My Ride will provide members with tips, suggestions, and ride evaluations from Equine Industry clinicians. New patterns or topics will be shared and cover a variety of disciplines related to equine riding. Participants may review materials at their own pace, try out any of the listed topics, and work on the feedback they are given. Evaluate My Ride is open to ALL AGES. Members will have the opportunity to submit videos of ranging difficulty and experience. New members can join at any time and catch up on the past weekly materials at their own pace.

New plans for the tractor safety training courses that were originally scheduled around the state are designed to protect the health of the students and trainers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Students will take the first day of the course online through the eXtension Foundation Campus website. After successfully completing the online course and testing, the required driving test will be offered at five locations across Nebraska July 27-31, 2020.

Do you have a companion animal that you have great relationship with and want an opportunity to show them off? Look no further! Sign up for our Video Companion Animal Showmanship Contest for an opportunity to present your favorite pet from the comfort of your own home! From cats, rabbits, and rodents to birds, reptiles, and amphibians, 4-H youth are invited to record a 3-5 minute presentation demonstrating their knowledge about the care their companion animal requires. The contest is open to youth ages 10-18 who are enrolled in a companion animal project. Video submissions will be accepted from June 1st through August 10th.
