The Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia is the nation's largest, publicly accessible collection of artifacts of intolerance. The museum contextualizes the dreadful impact of Jim Crow laws and customs and uses objects of intolerance to teach tolerance and promote a more just society. The museum is located at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, MI. The virtual tour is an opportunity to discover many of the highlights from the collection. Speakers in the virtual tour include:

Help us create a library of Black History books for and by Wilmington College Students!

The Liberation Library is an alternative to the main school library. Students are welcome to take books as they want and return them when they can. The Liberation Library focuses on books that empower and inspire students. These aren't academic books for classroom reading, these are books chosen by students and for students. The Liberation Library focuses on political readings, books by marginalized voices, important works in literature, and everything in between.

Join us on Saturday, February 4th as we take a trip to the Book Loft to purchase books for our library! Students will be given a small fund so that they may choose books to their liking to fill the library. The theme we will be buying under is Black History Month. We encourage students to purchase books by black authors, books important to Black History, Black political books and everything in between.

The Book Loft is one of the largest independent bookstores in the country with 32 rooms and over thousands of books. All books are discounted, with bargain books, and some books as discounted as 90%! Plus there is a coffee shop right next door!

Hellfighter is an American story, 5 generations in the telling. Through the real life story of Needham Roberts, “Hellfighter” tells the story of one of the country's most decorated military regiments, the 369th Infantry Regiment, aka the "Harlem Hellfighters".

Unlike many other soldiers in WWI, the Hellfighters and other soldiers of color were not just fighting the enemy on the other side of the battle line. They were fighting for full acceptance into the American dream.

The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center opened in 2004, and has filled a substantial void in our nation’s cultural heritage. Rooted in the stories of the Underground Railroad, the museum illuminates the true meaning of inclusive freedom by presenting permanent and special exhibits that inspire, public programming that provokes dialogue and action, and educational resources that equip modern abolitionists.

On Tuesday, February 21st, we'll have rapper Tronee Threat returning to campus to share his personal story and lead a discussion about his life. Threat is a rapper-songwriter, producer and performer. He was released early after serving 11 years of a 14-year prison term. He correlates his release with his purpose in life, which is to “rescind all false prophecies of failure spoken over the lives of marginalized people, by crashing through glass ceilings and kicking through bolted doors of success.” Music is his way into the ears, hearts and minds of his audiences. Come listen to him rap, talk about his life, music, incarceration, and be inspired!

She began her career at Spike Lee’s advertising agency before becoming a senior marketing executive at Pepsi, Apple Music, Uber, and Endeavor.

This is a true story about "Whipped Peter", a slave who flees a plantation in Louisiana and has to outwit cold-blooded hunters and the unforgiving swamps of Louisiana on a torturous journey north.

Thursday and Friday, February 23-24

Every year the Office of D&I offers a civil rights tour of Washington DC. On this trip, students visit three notable cultural museums: The Museum of African American History and Culture, The American Indian Museum, and the US Holocaust Museum. Through interacting with the content within these museums, students will have gained a better sense of history and culture. This lunchtime session is an opportunity to hear their personal reflections.
