Principal Message
Elger Bay Families,
I hope this message finds you well. As we embrace the midpoint of the academic year, I am thrilled to share some exciting updates on the progress of our students in their reading journeys.
This year we began using a new Amplify reading program, coupled with a new reading assessments. The commitment of our students and the dedication of our educators have truly made a difference, and I am delighted to announce that we have just completed our mid-year reading assessments. It is great to see the positive impact of our new initiatives, and I am proud to highlight these two bright spots from the assessments:
- 1st Grade Success: Over 60% of our 1st-grade students are reading at or above benchmark for this time of the year. This is a fantastic achievement, and it reflects the hard work and enthusiasm of both students and teachers.
- 4th Grade Excellence: An impressive 74% of our 4th-grade students are reading at or above benchmark. This noteworthy accomplishment is a testament to the dedication of our educators and the commitment of our students to excel in their reading skills.
As we continue through the remainder of the school year, let's celebrate these achievements and look forward to even more successes in the coming months. Thank you for being partners in your child's education, and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Warm regards,
Tim Dickinson
Principal

Spring Reading Challenge
Dear Families,
Get ready for an exciting reading challenge! We're thrilled to announce that the "Spring reading Challenge 2024" will kick off on February 12th. This three-week adventure is a fantastic opportunity for your child to dive into the world of books and have a chance to win a brand new BIKE, thanks to the generous donation from the Masons!
To participate, your child will need to complete five activities from the list provided each week for three weeks. A detailed information sheet will be sent home soon, outlining the activities and providing more details about the challenge.
Encourage your child to embrace the joy of reading and engage in the activities to increase their chances of winning the fantastic prize. Remind them to bring back the completed sheet with your PARENT SIGNATURE to be eligible for the drawing.
Mark your calendars as the challenge concludes on Monday, March 4th. We can't wait to see our young readers embark on this literary journey and potentially ride away with a brand new bike!
Happy reading!

Local nonprofits offer clubs and programs for students
Several area nonprofit organizations — such as the Stanwood-Camano YMCA and the Stanwood Camano Arts Advocacy Commission — offer clubs, programs, classes, and events for local students, including:
- Spring Sports (YMCA)
- 2024 Sports Offerings (YMCA)
- Lego at the Library (Sno-Isle Libraries)

3rd Grade Swim
We had such a blast with our 3rd grade swim program last school year. The YMCA has received funding for another year of this program through the incredible generosity of our community!
We are pleased to announce that the 3rd grade swim program through the YMCA will be happening again this year for Elger Bay students.
We are tentatively scheduled for Mrs. Cruise and Mrs. Jukanovich's classes to attend the week of March 18th and for Ms. Thompson's class to attend the week of April 8th. Students will be transported to the YMCA each afternoon and be returned back to Elger Bay just prior to the end of the school day.
Please plan your appointments around these times if your student will be participating. More information will be coming home soon. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
